Detailed Job Description

As a Kong API Gateway Engineer supporting our banking sector operations in Dubai, UAE, you will take full operational, tactical, and technical ownership of API gateway architecture, security policy enforcement, traffic routing, and microservices connectivity. Your day-to-day responsibilities include deploying and administering Kong Gateway and Kong Konnect instances, configuring API authentication and authorization mechanisms (OAuth 2.0, JWT, OpenID Connect), managing API gateway plugins, rate limiting, and traffic management rules, troubleshooting networking, DNS, and TLS/SSL connectivity issues, authoring automation scripts in Python, Bash, or Lua, and collaborating closely with cross-functional digital banking development and infrastructure squads. You will utilize your proactive troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills to resolve complex API traffic bottlenecks under strict enterprise service level agreements.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 4+ years of progressive professional experience in API engineering, middleware administration, or enterprise integration.
• Strong, demonstrable hands-on operational experience with Kong Gateway (Kong Konnect experience is a distinct advantage).
• Deep practical proficiency in REST APIs, HTTP/HTTPS protocols, JSON data formats, and API lifecycle management.
• Proven operational knowledge of API security standards including OAuth 2.0, JWT, and OpenID Connect.
• Solid practical experience with API gateway plugins, routing configurations, rate limiting, and traffic management strategies.
• Working knowledge of Linux operating systems, enterprise networking, DNS resolution, and TLS/SSL security.
• Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving capabilities under mission-critical enterprise environments.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills with strong cross-functional collaboration abilities.
• Mandatory legal work eligibility and physical availability for full-time on-site operations in Dubai, UAE.
