This role requires a combination of advanced carpentry skills and a strong understanding of design principles, enabling the creation of both functional and visually appealing spaces.

Job Summary

An Interior Decorator Carpenter is responsible for creating and installing custom woodworks and furniture, ensuring that design concepts align with the overall interior decoration theme. This role requires a combination of advanced carpentry skills and a strong understanding of design principles, enabling the creation of both functional and visually appealing spaces.

Key Responsibilities

1. Woodwork Design and Installation
   • Design, create, and install custom woodwork items such as furniture (e.g., cabinets, shelves, desks), wall paneling, doors, window frames, and decorative trim.
   • Ensure all wood pieces are constructed with precision, durability, and alignment to the design vision.
2. Interior Design Consultation
   • Collaborate with clients or interior designers to understand their vision, space requirements, and aesthetic preferences.
   • Suggest design ideas and solutions that incorporate functionality and style, focusing on maximizing space utility and creating an inviting atmosphere.
3. Custom Furniture Creation
   • Develop bespoke furniture based on client needs, including modifications to existing pieces or creating new designs.
   • Select materials (wood, veneers, finishes) that match the design theme and ensure longevity and quality.
4. Space Planning and Layout
   • Plan and conceptualize how the woodwork integrates into the overall interior design of the space.
   • Ensure seamless integration of carpentry elements with existing interior features (walls, flooring, lighting).
5. Measurements and Installation
   • Take accurate measurements of spaces to ensure proper fitting of furniture and custom installations.
   • Safely install wooden structures, ensuring precise fitting, durability, and functionality.
6. Sourcing Materials
   • Work with suppliers to source quality materials, considering design aesthetics, durability, and budget constraints.
   • Evaluate and select appropriate wood types, finishes, and other materials based on project requirements.
7. Finishing and Detailing
   • Apply finishing touches such as sanding, staining, painting, and polishing to enhance woodwork appearance.
   • Ensure woodwork is free from imperfections and meets design specifications.
8. Repairs and Renovations
   • Repair or renovate old or damaged furniture or wooden structures to match the design theme.
   • Offer suggestions for upgrades or modifications aligned with the client's evolving interior needs.
9. Collaboration
   • Work alongside interior designers, architects, electricians, and other contractors to ensure project elements are completed efficiently and harmoniously.
   • Address issues during the project, offering solutions that maintain functionality and aesthetic appeal.
10. Health and Safety Compliance
    • Ensure all carpentry tasks comply with health and safety regulations.
    • Properly use and maintain tools and equipment to ensure a safe working environment.

Skills & Qualifications

• Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent; formal carpentry training or apprenticeship preferred.
  • Certification or degree in Interior Design or related field is a plus.
• Experience
  • Proven experience as a carpenter with a strong portfolio of interior decoration projects.
  • Experience with advanced woodworking tools and techniques.
  • Strong understanding of interior design principles and styles.
• Skills
  • Proficient in woodworking techniques, including cutting, sanding, shaping, and finishing.
  • Ability to interpret and execute design plans and blueprints.
  • Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
  • Proficient with power tools and hand tools used in carpentry.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with designers, architects, and team members.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability.
