An international service provider in the energy sector is seeking an Inspector I - Quality in Abu Dhabi. JOB TITLE : Inspector I - Quality (Welding, Piping & NDE)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Welding :

  • Monitoring and reporting fabrication, installation, erection, and testing processes of process piping, steel structures, tanks, vessels, and metallic items.
  • Review of WPS, PQR, and weld maps.
  • Witness Welder Qualifications. Ensure that material/welding consumables are stored and handled correctly, when required material traceability is maintained, and correct material used.
  • Ensure a system of welding consumable control is implemented.
  • Ensure welding machines/baking ovens/quivers are in serviceable condition and within the valid calibration period where required.
  • Perform timely inspection during fabrication and construction.
  • Check the qualification of welding personnel and the materials used for the process.
  • Carry out inspection of work in progress, including verifying procedure adherence for welding.
  • Perform visual and dimensional checks.
  • Monitor welding process parameters for compliance with approved procedures and project specifications.
  • Conduct in-process (before/during/after) and final visual inspections.
  • Prepare/review inspection reports (fit-up, final visual).
  • Monitor contractor performance, ensure personnel are qualified, competent, and certified for their tasks.
  • Review test reports, including PWHT charts/records for process output compliance.
  • Prepare/review daily welding reports.

NDE :

  • Ensure all non-destructive testing is performed by qualified and certified personnel according to approved procedures.
  • Verify the validity of NDE Technician’s certification for the employed method.
  • Verify calibration status, suitability, and serviceability of equipment and consumables.
  • Coordinate NDE activities among subcontractors, contractors, and Petrofac.
  • Supervise and assist NDE subcontractors to meet quality standards.
  • Witness NDE performance and verify compliance with procedures.
  • Interpret NDE results for acceptability according to specifications and codes.
  • Review NDE reports and radiographs for compliance.
  • Ensure acceptable ambient conditions for NDE processes, including darkroom facilities.
  • Properly store and handle materials, films, chemicals, etc.
  • Review NDE procedures for suitability and compliance.
  • Maintain records of performed, accepted/rejected, and outstanding NDE activities.
  • Assist in coordinating NDE activities.

Piping :

  • Monitor and report compliance with P&ID, isometric drawings, codes, standards, and procedures during fabrication, installation, erection, and testing of process piping.
  • Ensure piping installation and testing follow procedures.
  • Verify piping installation in accordance with drawings and code, including material, alignment, supports, valves, insulation, marking, and tapings.
  • Confirm proper pipe size, schedule, flange rating, and fittings.
  • Ensure proper identification, protection, and operability of piping and fittings.
  • Manage flange systems, including class, type, gasket, bolts, and torque.
  • Conduct quality control and inspection of piping fabrication activities.
  • Perform line checks and clear punch items before pressure testing.
  • Inspect piping materials as per standards and specifications.
  • Inspect shop fabrication of piping spools and supports.
  • Visually inspect plant piping and prepare punch lists post-installation.
  • Inspect erection and installation of prefabricated pipelines, review related documentation, and witness pressure testing.
  • Prepare and verify punch lists, monitor clearance, and oversee line reinstatement, drying, and preservation activities.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS :

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • CSWP 3.1 or AWS CWI for Welding and NDT Level II Certifications.
  • CSWIP film interpretation / CSWIP 3.2.2 / RTFI Level II Certification through Petrofac for RT interpretation.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience as Welding/Piping/Pipeline QC Inspector.
  • Experience in the oil & gas / petrochemical industry.
  • Prior experience with major EPC contractors or subcontractors.
