Job description


An international financial institution is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its Infrastructure Finance Legal team. The successful candidate will support a dynamic global business with a particular focus on export finance, infrastructure finance, and project finance transactions. This role will be based in the Middle East and will involve close collaboration with regional and global legal teams across Europe and Asia.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead the structuring, negotiation, and execution of complex cross-border transactions in export credit, infrastructure finance, and project finance from origination through to completion.

- Provide legal support to portfolio management teams, including on legacy deals and in both distressed and non-distressed scenarios.

- Offer strategic and commercially focused legal advice, demonstrating deep market knowledge and awareness of current lending terms and practices.

- Advise on legal, reputational, and regulatory matters and manage internal escalation processes.

- Oversee and manage external legal counsel effectively, ensuring cost control and quality of advice.

- Maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external parties including export credit agencies, multilateral institutions, and legal, compliance, and risk functions.

- Support the business on new product development, legal and regulatory developments, and strategic initiatives, especially in the areas of green and sustainable finance.

- Contribute to governance and policy initiatives and support capacity sharing across international legal teams.

Requirements:

- Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 6 years' post-qualification experience in export finance, infrastructure finance, and/or project finance.

- Strong experience with cross-border financing transactions, including familiarity with export credit agencies, multilateral lending institutions, and CIRR structures.

- Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating across global teams. - Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.

- Commercially minded with a pragmatic approach to legal risk.
