Job summary

A leading construction firm is looking for a Hydrogeologist to oversee and approve hydrogeological procedures and monitoring during the construction phase. The role includes evaluating contractor performance, ensuring compliance with quality standards, and reporting on hydrogeological conditions. Candidates must have a relevant degree and possess at least 10 years of experience, particularly in underground rock cavern projects. Fluency in English and proficiency in numerical modelling are essential.

Job description

The Hydrogeologist participates in reviewing, commenting & approving the Method Statements issued by the EPC CONTRACTOR related to mapping and 3D geological modelling.

  • Construction phase (on Site):

The Hydrogeologist will:

  • Review, comment on and accept / approve the CONTRACTOR(S) construction procedures, specifications, method statements and fabrication drawings related to hydrogeological issues (non-exhaustive):
  • surface or underground investigations boreholes, probe holes, manometer holes, water curtain boreholes hydrogeological testing procedures
  • drilling procedure and completion of monitoring and water curtain boreholes
  • overall near field and far field hydrogeological monitoring procedures (water balance, piezometric survey, pore pressure survey, chemical-physical and bacteriological quality of supply waters and discharged seepage water)
  • Methodology for analysis and predictive evaluation of the hydrogeological conditions observed (including modelling tool)
  • Hydrogeological Monitoring reporting procedure.
  • Review of the equipment, instrumentation and materials procured by CONTRACTORS for construction and monitoring in compliance with design specifications.
  • Follow-up of construction activities, review and supervision of hydrogeological monitoring works during the construction phase.
  • Evaluate the efficiency of the grouting works and water curtain system regarding concurrent objectives of optimization of water balance and hydrodynamic containment conditions of storage caverns facilities.
  • Check the quality of hydrogeological testing and monitoring works carried out by CONTRACTORS.
  • Monitor and co-ordinate the corrective actions and recommendations for the construction work performed by the CONTRACTOR or its sub-contractor(s) and verify that EPC works and corrective works are performed in compliance with the EPC CONTRACT and the COMPANYs HSE requirements and that workmanship is in accordance with appropriate standards of quality.
  • Review and approbation of hydrogeological reporting
  • Check mechanical completion and review, comment on and propose acceptance of the RFC notification to the UG Civil Works Construction Manager.

Notwithstanding the above, the Hydrogeologist shall not be authorized to give any instruction to the CONTRACTOR related to operation of systems, equipment or facilities, or any other operations at the SITE without the prior approval of the UG Civil Works Construction Manager.

To perform above tasks, the Hydrogeologist will share his time between underground checking CONTRACTORs activities (e.g. supervision of long investigation boreholes, probe holes, manometer holes and water curtain testing and cross-checking of hydrogeological monitoring activities, grouting works..), and Site Office works for evaluation of the CONTRACTORs hydrogeological reporting and participation to meetings.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree holder with at least 10 relevant experience
  • Experience in underground rock cavern project will be an advantage
  • Able to speak and write English fluently
  • Computer Skills: Excel, Word, Numerical Modelling, Well Test Interpretation
