Job Description
Strategic Direction and Development of the Team
1. Develop and ensure implementation of a whole-school policy for the department in line with the aims and policies of the school.
2. Use national, local and school management data effectively to monitor standards of achievement across the school in the department.
3. Collaborate with the relevant Vice Principals and other academic leaders and support staff to produce short, medium and long-term plans to develop the department in relation to, but not limited to, resources, staff professional .development requirements, the aims of the school and its policies and practices, targets for realistic, but challenging, improvements
4. Monitor the progress made towards achieving the department plans and targets, and use this information to plan future developments.
5. Establish resource and staff requirements for the subject and inform the SALT of costs and priorities.
6. Distribute subject resources to meet the objectives of the school.
7. Ensure the effective and efficient management of learning resources for the subject.
8. Ensure a stimulating but safe working environment in which risks are regularly assessed.
Curriculum and Assessment
9. Ensure curriculum coverage, continuity and progression in the department throughout the school, and where appropriate, in collaboration with other schools in the AJ Group following the same curriculum.
10. Ensure that teachers are clear about teaching and learning objectives and success criteria, understand the sequence of teaching and learning in the department and communicate this to students.
11. Support and guide colleagues to select the most appropriate teaching and learning methods and resources to meet the needs of the full range of students.
12. Establish and implement clear policies and practices for assessing, recording and reporting on student achievement in line with school and ADEC policies.
13. Evaluate the teaching of the subject in the school, use this analysis to identify effective practice and areas for improvement and take action to improve further the quality of teaching in the department.
14. Checks the lesson plans based on the curriculum every week and guides the subject teachers to implement the lesson plans every week.
Leadership and Professional Development
16. Motivates subject teachers; encourages professional development; recognizes efficiency and accomplishments in their subject.
17. Practices and promotes professional growth among subject teachers through reading, attending conferences and workshops.
18. Initiates relevant training and development programs and activities.
19. Contributes to information and knowledge sharing among peers.
20. Keeps up to date with latest professional techniques to enhance education.
21. Lead professional development of staff through example and support.
22. Conducts a minimum of 24 hours of professional development to the existing staff in an academic year.
23. Ensure that newly qualified staff and staff new to the school receive appropriate training of a minimum of 8 hours during the probation period.
24. Work with the school counsellor to ensure that IEP's are used to set specific targets and that work is matched to students needs.
25. Ensure that the Senior Academic Leadership Team (SALT) and Executive Leadership are well-informed about subject policies, plans and priorities, the success in meeting objectives and targets and subject-related professional development plans.
Maintains portfolio recording his or her learning experiences and promotes the same among the subject teachers.

10. Laws, rules and regulations, policies and procedures of the State, ADEC and school respectively.
11. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
12. Career Prospects in the Subject.
13. Technological advancements and latest trends developing in the Subject.
