Responsibilities

General Responsibilities:

With the School Staff

  • Assist school in achieving its overall vision and strategic intentions and to contribute to the achievement of relevant targets as set out in the school s improvement plan and self-evaluation form
  • Comply with regulations pertaining to health and safety at work legislation and adhere to school policies relating to safe working practice and equal opportunities regulations
  • Comply with the school s Performance Management Policy ensuring challenging annual targets are set and to fulfil the role of performance management reviewer if directed to do so by the principal
  • Engage in annual training linked to child protection, safeguarding and health and safety together with all training deemed appropriate for the purpose of school improvement or performance management
  • Comply with the school s staff dress code at all times including the wearing of photo ID / lanyard
  • Comply with the school s computer Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) at all times
  • Attend all staff briefings
  • Sign out and sign in at relevant school reception if off site at any point during the normal working day

  • To develop an understanding of the Additional Educational Needs (AEN) /special Educational Needs of the student/s concerned
  • To take into account the student/s special needs and ensure their access to the lesson and its content through appropriate clarification, explanations, equipment and materials
  • To build and maintain successful relationships with student(s), treat them consistently, with respect and consideration
  • To help reinforce learning
  • To help promote independent learning
  • To assist students with physical needs
  • To help students record work in an appropriate way
  • To develop study and organisational skills.
  • To help keep the students on task and to build motivation
  • To model good practice
  • To help build the student/s confidence and enhance self-esteem
  • To maintain liaison with parents regarding student(s) performance


With the Teacher

  • To have formal and informal meetings with regard to Teaching and Learning plans for the lesson/activities
  • To prepare materials and resources as required
  • To prepare students beforehand for a task
  • To work on differentiated activities with identified groups
  • To support the teacher in implementing specific teaching techniques
  • To supervise practical tasks
  • To be involved in keeping records on evaluating the progress of identified students


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two year diploma/degree in education or Special needs education or to have a high school diploma with a special needs education programe.


Minimum Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in the same field.
