General Duties of a Fitter
- Reading and Interpreting Technical Drawings
- Understanding engineering blueprints, schematics, and manuals
- Identifying dimensions, tolerances, and part specifications
- Assembling Mechanical Components
- Fitting and assembling machine parts using hand tools and power tools
- Aligning components for proper function and performance
- Installation of Machinery or Systems
- Positioning and securing equipment or systems in place (e.g., engines, pumps, conveyors)
- Connecting components such as pipes, motors, or gears
- Maintenance and Repairs
- Inspecting machinery for wear, damage, or misalignment
- Replacing faulty parts, lubricating systems, and ensuring proper operation
- Machining and Fabrication
- Cutting, drilling, or grinding materials to fit using lathes, milling machines, or grinders
- Shaping and modifying parts as needed for custom fits
- Alignment and Calibration
- Ensuring parts are aligned accurately using levels, micrometers, and dial indicators
