Job Purpose
The
Health Coach will provide health coaching to patients participating in the IHLAD lifestyle medicine and healthy longevity program(s). The Health Coach will support each patient to enable them to make long-term, self-directed changes consistent with their values and beliefs to improve their health, wellness, and general well-being. The role involves the development of patient-practitioner rapport, leveraging patient health data, developing individualized health plans centred around patient facilitated goal setting, facilitating behavioural changes, and acting as an accountability partner supporting patients on their health journey. The Health Coach will collaborate with the healthcare team and ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Health coaching facilitates self-empowered health decision-making and supports patients to improve their health outcomes.
- Provide individualized health coaching to patients based on their unique health needs, goals, and medical conditions, ensuring the patients journey maps to their values and belief systems.
- Identify the patients readiness-to-change,co-create a roadmap to lifestyle change including the facilitation of personalized health goals, identification and addressing of barriers to change, and provide on-going support to the patient throughout their journey.
- Conduct regular health assessments and review wearable data, diagnostic results, and other health indicators to assess patient progress.
- Support patients in setting realistic health goals and monitor their progress through regular follow-up sessions.
- Conduct one-on-one health coaching sessions, either virtually or in-person, to support patients in adopting healthier habits.
- Utilise an appropriate range of tools and approaches such as empathetic listening, motivation interviewing, positive psychology, and more, to support the patient on their health journey,
- Where appropriate be prepared toconduct group workshops, webinars, or seminars on a range of appropriate health coaching and lifestyle medicine topics.
- Work closely with other healthcare professionals to inform the MDT of session outcomes, goals set and goal tracking outcomes.
- Document patient interactions, coaching sessions, and health progress in the electronic health records (EHR) system.
- Provide ongoing education, support, and resources to patients to help them understand and manage their health.
- Stay updated on the latest research and best practices in precision lifestyle medicine and health coaching and other relevant areas.
- Support the organization in other tasks as required and aligned with the scope of practice for the Health Coach.
Governance & Compliance
Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the Clinical Operations Manager, collaborating with the multi-disciplinary team to align health coaching activities with organizational goals and patient outcomes.
Compliance Responsibilities
Ensure health coaching operations comply with UAE healthcare regulations and maintain alignment with medical research standards where applicable.
Decision-Making Authority
Holds authority to make decisions regarding patient health coaching strategies and interventions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and patient outcomes.
Competencies And Skills
Core Competencies:
- Communication Skills: Ability to clearly communicate health information, support patients, and collaborate with healthcare teams.
- Empathy & Compassion: A strong commitment to understanding patient needs and providing compassionate support.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to work collaborative within an MDT to help develop appropriate patient care recommendations.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in using electronic health records (EHR) systems and other healthcare-related software.
- Strong understanding of goal setting and behaviour change techniques and strategies and the ability to support a patient throughout their behaviour change journey.
Qualifications And Experience
There are three key criteria that an applicant must meet before applying:
- Must have a current and up to date Department of Heath Abu Dhabi medical licence (i.e., physician, dentist, nurse, midwife or allied health professional) or the ability to apply and gain a licence.
- Completion of a health coaching certificate (40-hour minimum training course), ideally with UKIHCA, NBHWC, or HCANZA certification, or as an NHS certified Health Coach.
- The ability to gain accreditation with the Association for Coaching (AC) within 12 weeks.
- Ideally the application will already be an accredited health coach with the AC.
- Accreditation requirements include evidence of a minimum 100 hr coaching, evidence of a minimum of 6 x 1 hr supervisory sessions and other requirements summarised in the appendix below and can be found at

Working Conditions
Work Environment
Office-based with occasional virtual coaching sessions. In-person patient consultations may require travel between clinic locations.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods during coaching sessions. Light physical movement may be required when demonstrating exercises or health activities.
Travel Requirements
Occasional travel may be required between healthcare facilities and patient locations within Abu Dhabi and the UAE for in-person coaching or assessments.
