The Health and Safety Officer (HSO) will play a pivotal role in ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors. The role is dedicated to supporting school-based health and safety management in line with Cognita Middle East policies, Abu Dhabi Occupational Safety and Health System Framework (OSHAD-SF), ADEK regulations, and other relevant local regulations. The HSO will proactively contribute to embedding a positive safety culture and ensuring compliance.
Skills, Experience & Responsibilities:
- Compliance Monitoring: Monitor compliance with health and safety regulations and guidance set out by local authorities, accrediting bodies, and Cognita ME.
- Risk Management: Lead the development and implementation of risk assessment and risk management procedures.
- Training and Development: Ensure the training matrix is up to date and key internal health and safety training topics are delivered to relevant staff members. Support facilitation of external training as necessary.
- Audits/Inspections/Reviews: Engage with reviewers and inspectors. Monitor findings and ensure action plans are maintained with corrective measures implemented within the required timeframe.
- Incident Management: Oversee all reported health and safety incidents, conduct investigations or follow-up tasks as required, and ensure reporting processes are followed effectively.
- Document Control: Manage all health and safety documentation, ensuring information sharing with relevant staff and regular review of documents and policies in line with policy.
- Health and Safety Committee: Lead the committee, focusing on collaboration, improvement, incident analysis, and corrective actions.
- Safety Culture: Act as a leader for health and safety practices, promoting a positive safety culture within the organization. Encourage positive reporting and support safety initiatives.
Safeguarding Responsibilities:
- Strategy: Contribute positively to Safeguarding improvement strategies across Cognita schools, nurseries, and other units.
- Policy and Compliance: Familiarize with safeguarding policies and procedures; support adherence and awareness.
- Incident Reporting: Ensure safeguarding concerns are reported through the appropriate platforms, following policies and guidance.
- Training and Awareness: Complete safeguarding training courses timely.
- Risk Assessment: Complete risk assessments for your areas of responsibility, seeking training and feedback to mitigate risks.
- Emergency Response: Support or act as the Emergency Response Lead during emergencies, delivering training, conducting drills, and reporting findings.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with the Cognita ME Health and Safety Network.
- Culture: Be a role model for health, safety, and safeguarding practices, promoting a positive and safe organizational culture.
