Head of Strategic Procurement – Energetic Materials and Chemicals, Defense / Explosives experience required

We are currently seeking an exceptional Head of Strategic Procurement to lead the development and execution of procurement strategies for energetic materials and chemicals on behalf of our client. This senior leadership role offers the opportunity to drive value creation, risk mitigation, and cost savings while overseeing a dynamic and high-performing team of procurement professionals.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Category Strategy Development : Lead the creation and implementation of strategies for direct categories and engineering requirements, informed by market trends and supplier landscapes.
  • Team Leadership : Manage, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team focused on strategic sourcing and category management. Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Strategic Sourcing & Execution : Oversee end-to-end procurement processes, including supplier selection, RFQs / RFPs, contract negotiations, and framework agreements for direct and engineering categories.
  • Contract Negotiation : Drive the establishment of long-term contracts that align with the client’s strategic goals. Collaborate with engineering and operations teams for seamless execution.
  • Stakeholder Engagement : Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and senior management to ensure alignment with procurement strategies.
  • Performance Monitoring : Set and monitor KPIs to assess procurement strategy effectiveness and team performance, regularly updating senior management on achievements and improvements.

What We’re Looking For :

  • Experience : Minimum of 12 years in senior procurement roles with a focus on explosives, or energetic materials . Candidates with prior experience managing logistics of explosives and working with suppliers like BASF, DuPont, Chemring, Nexter, Rheinmetall, Orica, or similar companies are highly preferred.
  • Leadership Skills : Proven ability to manage and inspire high-performing teams in a high-stakes environment, ensuring smooth procurement and logistics operations.
  • Procurement Expertise : In-depth knowledge of procurement processes, including hazardous material handling, contract negotiations, supplier management, and strategic sourcing, especially in the defense sector.
  • Education : Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field (advanced certifications such as CIPS / CPSM preferred).
  • Skills : Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to drive change and deliver measurable results.
