We are hiring a Head of Risk to lead the Risk department and improve how the business identifies, assesses, and responds to risk. You will manage the team, own day-to-day risk decisions within delegated authority, and set the standards for sound judgment and consistent decision-making across the business.
You will also be accountable for developing the department’s capabilities. We expect you to identify gaps in existing controls, develop and test new approaches, and work with other teams to put effective improvements into practice. The role combines hands‑on ownership of complex decisions with the ability to turn what the department learns into better controls, tools, and products
Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the Risk team. Set priorities, clarify decision ownership, coach team members, and ensure reliable coverage for time‑sensitive decisions.
- Own day-to-day risk oversight, including trading activity monitoring, investigations, payout risk reviews, and escalations. Make decisions within delegated authority and bring material cases to the Group CRO with a recommendation.
- Set standards for evidence, documentation, and quality assurance. Ensure decisions are timely, consistent, and grounded in the rules applicable to each case. Use quality reviews and appeals to identify where policies or practices need clarification.
- Monitor emerging risks, trader behavior, and payout exposure. Explain material shifts, distinguish individual cases from broader patterns, and recommend action based on the evidence.
- Assess the risk and commercial implications of new products and proposed changes. Use historical data and scenario analysis to estimate their effects, identify unintended consequences, and review actual outcomes after launch.
- Own the department’s innovation roadmap. Identify where current controls miss important behavior, create unnecessary work, or lead to inconsistent outcomes. Develop and test new analytical methods, controls, and workflows against clear success criteria.
- Work with Product, Data, and Engineering to turn validated ideas into usable tools and processes. Prioritize improvements that strengthen decisions, reduce manual work, or give the team earlier visibility into emerging risk.
- Maintain clear procedures and escalation thresholds. Lead the response to material incidents, investigate root causes, and track corrective actions through completion.
- Keep the Group CRO informed of material exposures, emerging risks, and the performance of existing controls. Present proposals with the evidence, trade‑offs, and a clear recommendation.
Requirements:
- Senior experience in proprietary trading risk, trading surveillance, or a related trading risk environment, with direct responsibility for material decisions.
- Experience leading a team or risk operation, establishing decision standards, and handling complex escalations.
- Strong understanding of leveraged products, order execution, position sizing, margin, drawdown, and trading behavior.
- Ability to investigate complex activity using order, trade, and account data, assess the strength of the evidence, and communicate a defensible decision.
- Ability to analyze data independently, interpret results across cohorts, and explain the assumptions and limitations behind a recommendation.
- A track record of building or materially improving a risk control, analytical tool, or operating process. You can explain how you tested it and what changed after implementation.
- Clear communication and sound judgment under pressure, with the ability to work effectively with technical, commercial, and executive teams.
- Practical experience with SQL, Python, or business intelligence tools for risk analysis, historical testing, or workflow automation.
- Experience translating risk requirements into tools or processes adopted by an operating team.
Decision Authority
The Head of Risk / Risk Manager owns the department’s daily operations, case decisions within approved policy, team priorities, and the testing and implementation of approved improvements. The Group CRO retains approval over risk appetite, material policy and product changes, and exceptions outside delegated authority.
