Job description
Main Duties
Strategic Direction and Development
- Develop and implement department policies aligned with the school's vision, high achievement standards, and effective teaching.
- Establish, monitor, and evaluate short, medium, and long-term departmental plans.
- Ensure effective timetabling and staff distribution.
- Use data to identify underachieving students and implement support plans.
- Analyse school data, research, and inspection reports to inform policies and teaching practices.
- Develop, review, and evaluate schemes of work for all courses, ensuring appropriate SEN, G&T, and EAL provisions.
- Plan and lead primary sports activities, including Sports Day and Sports Week.
Teaching and Learning
- Ensure curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression for all students, including high-ability and SEN learners.
- Implement clear policies for assessing, recording, and reporting student achievement.
- Set high expectations for staff regarding achievement, teaching quality, and behavior.
- Evaluate teaching quality, identify areas for improvement, and take action.
- Ensure departmental contribution to CAS programs and after-school booster/revision sessions for I/GCSE and IB DP.
- Maintain effective communication with parents and primary SLT.
Leading and Managing Staff
- Performance manage staff per the school's performance management policy.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-standard work environment.
- Conduct regular department meetings with a focus on student achievement and teaching quality.
Managing Resources
- Deploy and manage staff, resources, and budgets efficiently.
- Maintain an engaging learning environment in line with the Learning Environment Policy.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety policies and risk assessments.
Other Responsibilities
- Lead primary BSME games.
- Oversee weekend fixtures and training.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in the related subject with PGCE or other teacher qualification.
- Minimum of 6 years teaching English National Curriculum.
- Previous experience working with students whom English is not their first language.
