Job Purpose
The Head of Operations – Waste Management will oversee and manage all operational aspects of the waste management business, ensuring efficiency, compliance with environmental regulations, cost-effectiveness, and high-quality service delivery. This role involves strategic planning, team leadership, process optimization, and stakeholder management to drive business growth and sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Operational Management
- Oversee daily operations across collection, transportation, recycling, and disposal of waste.
- Ensure operational efficiency, adherence to schedules, and cost management.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all operational activities.
- Strategic Planning
- Collaborate with senior management to develop short- and long-term operational strategies.
- Identify opportunities for business growth, process optimization, and technology adoption.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with local, regional, and national environmental regulations and safety standards.
- Implement robust health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies across all operations.
- Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to minimize operational hazards.
- Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop operational teams including supervisors, drivers, and waste handlers.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Set clear goals, monitor performance, and conduct regular performance reviews.
- Financial Management
- Prepare and manage operational budgets and forecasts.
- Control operational expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Report on operational performance, financial metrics, and efficiency improvements.
- Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain relationships with government authorities, regulatory bodies, clients, and vendors.
- Ensure excellent customer service and timely resolution of client issues.
- Represent the company in industry forums, conferences, and networking events.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of experience in waste management or environmental services, with at least 5 years in a senior operations leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of waste management processes, recycling, and environmental regulations.
- Proven experience in operational planning, process optimization, and team leadership.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
