Role and Responsibilities
This role falls under our Fish Farm umbrella in Umm Al Quwain and will be responsible for the management of the fish hatchery in all stages of production, from broodstock, egg production, live feed production, larval rearing, weaning and nursery to market size. Overseeing the health and welfare of fish, in addition to managerial duties such as equipment and personnel supervision and budgeting. As well as ensuring that the hatchery adheres to company policies as well as state or federal regulations.
- Operating closely with the Aquaculture Development Manager in all aspects of hatchery management
- Responsible for the management of all aspects of the hatchery operation and for the production of marine fish juveniles
- Managing and coordinating all production and maintenance staff in the day-to-day operation of the hatchery
- Managing the operating budget of the hatchery
- Directly responsible for the supervision and safety of all associates that work in the hatchery. Sets up and enforces safety programs and committees to instruct associates on all local, state, federal and company safety programs.
- Responsible for the maintenance and inventories of the building and all equipment, maintains inventories, equipment, parts and supplies as needed for operation.
- Responsible for the maintenance and inventories of all materials and supplies required for the hatchery operation.
- Responsible for timely preparation of orders (PO) for all materials for timely arrival at the hatchery
- Responsible for managing the egg production required for all breeder placements and ensures no shortages occur.
- Responsible for quality and production requirements, initiates programs to accomplish the best possible hatchability.
- Responsible for overseeing the breeding and rearing of fish.
- Preparation and maintenance of fish hatchery operation, operating protocols and production plans.
- Monitoring and evaluating water quality and fish health in the hatchery
- Responsible for total operating costs of the hatchery. Must set targets in all cost areas to stay industry competitive and keep within the budget.
- Preparation of weekly management reports and extraordinary reports on other matters
Qualifications
- A first degree in Biological sciences is advantageous
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in hatchery operation, with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role
