Job description

To provide leadership and end-to-end operational accountability for Modon’s core technology platforms – data centre facilities, compute and storage, enterprise network, hybrid and multi-cloud environments, and the digital workplace. The role ensures these platforms are resilient, performant, secure by design, cost-effective, and capable of supporting the business today while scaling for future growth across the Group.

The Director will translate the Enterprise Technology strategy into an executable infrastructure and Cloud roadmap – setting engineering standards, driving operational maturity and automation, and holding strategic partners and service providers accountable for outcomes. The role works within the Group governance and architecture framework and operates a shared accountability model with Cybersecurity to embed and sustain controls across the estate.

Roles, Responsibilities, Duties
Strategy and Technical Leadership
  • Translate the Enterprise Technology strategy into a costed, sequenced roadmap for infrastructure, cloud, and workplace services, aligned with Modon’s corporate priorities.
  • Own the technical architecture and engineering standards for the platform estate, ensuring designs are resilient, scalable, observable, secure by design, and aligned to the enterprise reference architecture.
  • Maintain a current view of the infrastructure and cloud footprint, technology‑debt position, and end‑of‑life exposure, with a credible transition plan and refresh cycle.
  • Evaluate and introduce emerging platform capabilities – infrastructure‑as‑code, automation, AI‑assisted operations, and cloud‑native services, and where they deliver demonstrable operational or financial benefit.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with strategic infrastructure, cloud, and workplace partners, including joint roadmap engagement, escalation paths, and structured service reviews
Data Centre, Compute and Storage
  • Direct the strategy, design, and operation of enterprise compute, virtualisation, and hyperconverged platforms, ensuring capacity is planned to meet demand and utilisation is actively managed.
  • Own enterprise storage and data protection infrastructure, including tiering, capacity forecasting, backup infrastructure, and retention aligned to business and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a structured lifecycle and refresh programme across compute, storage, and supporting hardware, with vendor support coverage tracked and gaps escalated.
  • Ensure environments are consistently built and configured to defined standards, with configuration drift detected and remediated.
  • Drive rationalisation and consolidation of legacy platforms, reducing footprint, licence cost, and operational burden.
Enterprise Network and Connectivity
  • Own enterprise network architecture and operations across corporate sites – LAN, WAN, SD‑WAN, wireless, remote access, and internet edge, including inter‑site and cloud connectivity.
  • Ensure network designs deliver required availability, performance, and segmentation, with capacity managed against business growth and new site onboarding.
  • Manage telecommunications and connectivity providers against defined service levels, driving accountability for availability, restoration times, and change quality.
  • Own network standards, documentation, and change discipline, ensuring configuration is version‑controlled and changes are tested, approved, and reversible.
  • Support new developments, site fit‑outs, and asset handovers with the network and connectivity capability required at handover.
Cloud Platforms – Azure and AWS
  • Own the strategy, design, and operation of Modon Corporate’s hybrid and multi‑cloud estate across Azure and AWS, ensuring well‑architected design and consistent landing‑zone governance.
  • Establish and enforce cloud guardrails covering subscription and account structure, tagging, network topology, identity integration, and configuration baselines, in line with Cybersecurity standards.
  • Own cloud FinOps discipline – consumption visibility, rightsizing, reservation and savings‑plan strategy, anomaly detection, and clear cost allocation to consuming business functions.
  • Ensure workloads meet applicable data‑residency and regulatory requirements, with placement decisions documented and reviewed.
  • Drive cloud migration and modernisation activity, with structured assessment, migration patterns, and validated post‑migration operational readiness.
  • Establish infrastructure‑as‑code and automated deployment pipelines as the default delivery mechanism for cloud environments.
Workplace, Productivity and End‑User Computing
  • Own the Microsoft 365 platform end‑to‑end for Modon, including tenant configuration and governance, service health, licensing optimisation, and roadmap adoption.
  • Own enterprise end‑user computing services – device standards and imaging, operating‑system currency, mobile device management, application packaging, and virtual desktop infrastructure.
  • Operate the enterprise identity platform (Microsoft Entra ID) day to day – provisioning, authentication configuration, device compliance, and conditional access to the standards and policies set by Cybersecurity.
Resilience, Availability and Disaster Recovery
  • Establish and maintain enterprise resilience across the platform estate, with high‑availability designs proportionate to business criticality and documented recovery objectives.
  • Own disaster recovery readiness – runbooks, replication, recovery environments – and prove it through a scheduled testing programme with results reported and gaps remediated.
  • Ensure backup and recovery services are complete in coverage, regularly restore‑tested, and protected against destructive and ransomware scenarios in partnership with Cybersecurity.
  • Support business continuity planning with credible technology recovery input, and lead technology recovery during major disruption events.
Operational Excellence and Service Delivery
  • Ensure operational coverage across the platform estate with documented standard operating procedures, defined ownership, and a structured on‑call and escalation model.
  • Own capacity, performance, and availability management, with observability tooling providing meaningful alerting and a clear path from alert to action.
  • Maintain a disciplined patching and currency cadence across infrastructure, cloud, and workplace platforms, meeting agreed remediation service levels.
  • Operate within the ITIL‑aligned service management framework – incident, major incident, problem, change, configuration, and release – as the platform owner and technical escalation point.
  • Drive continuous improvement through problem trend analysis, automation of repeatable toil, and reduction of manual and out‑of‑hours effort.
Security, Risk and Compliance Alignment
  • Implement and sustain security controls across infrastructure, cloud, and workplace platforms to the standards set by Cybersecurity, under a shared accountability model with clear control ownership.
  • Remediate vulnerabilities within agreed service levels by severity and asset criticality, with exceptions formally documented and risk‑accepted.
  • Maintain the platform technology risk register, with mitigation plans tracked to closure and reported to the appropriate risk and audit forums.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, data‑residency, and Group policy requirements, and support internal and external audit activity with timely evidence.
Vendor, Commercial and Financial Management
  • Own the infrastructure, cloud, and workplace budget (OPEX and CAPEX) with disciplined forecasting, accruals, variance analysis, and credible year‑end landing.
  • Manage strategic vendors, managed service providers, and system integrators against clearly defined KPIs and service levels, holding partners accountable for functional and non‑functional outcomes.
Qualification:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Relevant professional certifications preferred (e.g. Microsoft Azure and AWS certifications, Microsoft 365 certifications, ITIL, VMware, Cisco, Aruba, TOGAF)
