Role Context
The Graduate Data Engineer - MEP Digital Systems will work at the intersection of software development, engineering data, BIM, automation, and building performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with MEP engineers to introduce digital and data-driven methods into conventional engineering design workflows.
- Develop practical software tools that support mechanical, electrical, and public health engineering throughout the project lifecycle.
- Extract, organize, clean, validate, and analyze data generated from BIM models, engineering calculations, simulations, and project systems.
- Build automated workflows that reduce manual effort in engineering calculations, reporting, model checking, and data processing.
- Develop applications and scripts using Python, C#, Dynamo, Grasshopper, VBA, APIs, or other suitable technologies.
- Create data models and analytical processes that help engineering teams evaluate options, risks, performance, and design efficiency.
- Produce Power BI dashboards and technical visualizations that communicate engineering metrics and project insights clearly.
- Maintain engineering databases, templates, reusable code components, libraries, and digital resources.
- Support value engineering and MEP design optimization through structured data analysis and comparison of design alternatives.
- Connect BIM platforms with simulation, engineering analysis, reporting, and data analytics systems.
- Develop automated QA/QC checks for errors, inconsistencies, missing information, and non-compliance within engineering models and datasets.
- Work with Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud data to improve access to engineering information and digital project intelligence.
- Improve interoperability between BIM, engineering applications, project platforms, and analytical environments.
- Analyze building performance information including energy use, thermal comfort, indoor environmental quality, and HVAC system performance.
- Process outputs from building simulation applications such as IES VE, EnergyPlus, or equivalent software.
- Explore relationships between engineering design variables and building performance outcomes.
- Investigate potential applications of predictive analytics and machine learning in MEP design and building operations.
- Develop proof-of-concept solutions for emerging digital technologies and demonstrate their practical value to engineering teams.
- Support adoption of AI, computational design, automation, and advanced analytics within building services engineering.
- Provide technical guidance and basic training to engineers using newly developed digital tools and workflows.
Ideal Profile
- UAE National with a valid family book.
- Degree or diploma in Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Digital Engineering, Computational Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, MEP Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Graduate-level candidate with strong interest in applying software and data engineering to real-world engineering problems.
- Strong programming capability in Python and C#.
- Practical understanding of data manipulation, automation, analytical workflows, and software development principles.
- Experience with SQL, Power BI, and data visualization tools.
- Familiarity with BIM and digital engineering platforms such as Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud is advantageous.
- Exposure to Navisworks, IES VE, EnergyPlus, Grasshopper, Rhino, or Dynamo is beneficial.
- Understanding of BIM data structures, software APIs, and engineering system interoperability.
- Experience developing automation through Python, Dynamo, Grasshopper, VBA, APIs, or similar environments is highly valuable.
- Interest in machine learning, predictive analytics, computational design, and engineering innovation.
- Able to communicate effectively with engineers and translate technical requirements into usable digital solutions.
