Job description

A General Mechanic Technician at Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts is responsible for the safe, efficient, and professional operation, maintenance, and repair of all building Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems. This includes overseeing the functionality of plant rooms, sump pits, various pump systems, and executing a comprehensive preventive maintenance program. The role also supports daily maintenance tasks to ensure guest comfort and operational excellence, always aligning with the highest standards of luxury hospitality.

What will I be doing

As a General Mechanic Technician, you are responsible for carrying out daily bedroom and corridor maintenance to deliver an excellent Guest and Member experience. A General Mechanic will also be required to maintain stock levels, and ensure rooms and corridors are in working order. Specifically, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:

  • Ensures all work follows safe work practices and procedures
  • Responds immediately to all work requests which concern Health and Safety
  • Ensures environmentally friendly practices are followed when handling chemicals, lubricants and refrigerants
  • Maintains and repairs all plant rooms MEP related equipment
  • Ensures the optimum performance of all MEP equipment by effectively following the preventive maintenance and the shift readings programs
  • Evaluates and appropriately responds to equipment usage and energy efficiency
  • Completes all work orders with due diligence
  • Maintains a daily logbook highlighting problems and solutions, and activities
  • Maintain all MEP shop drawings
  • Maintain equipment catalog and tagging directories
  • Actively participates in the monthly departmental meeting by providing feedback and offering suggestions for improvement
  • Completes tasks as assigned by MEP supervisor
  • Maintains health and safety documentation and records for the assigned area
  • Reports and documents potential safety hazards
  • Participates as directed in the emergency response team

What are we looking for

A General Mechanic Technician serving Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts is always working on behalf of our Guests and working with other Team Members. To successfully fill this role, you should maintain the attitude, behaviors, skills, and values that follow:

  • Progressive experience of at least 2 years in a similar role as a Mechanic Technician, preferably within a luxury hotel or comparable facility.
  • Strong proficiency in pumps and MEP equipment maintenance and repair, with a solid grasp of overall building operations and systems.
  • Able to read and accurately interpret MEP and architectural drawings to carry out repairs and installations effectively.
  • Skilled in estimating time, labor, and materials needed for basic maintenance tasks and small projects.
  • Proficient in the use of general tools, power tools, and specialized equipment required for building repair and maintenance.
  • Experience using computer systems related to Building Management and Automation Systems (BMS).
  • Good physical condition, with the ability to lift heavy loads, walk long distances, and stand for extended periods while performing tasks.
  • Comfortable communicating in English, with the ability to understand written and verbal instructions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently while managing priorities in a guest-focused environment.
  • High standards of personal grooming and presentation, in line with the expectations of a luxury hospitality brand.
  • Strong safety awareness and a commitment to adhering to health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and during emergencies, to ensure continuous hotel operations.
