POSITION SUMMARY

General Maintenance - Kitchen Technician

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair kitchen gas appliances and systems (e.g., 4 burners, Kittel, water heaters, ovens, boilers, flat top, deep fat fryer).
  • Troubleshoot and service laundry equipment, including steam-operated washers, dryers, and ironing machines.
  • Perform welding and fabrication tasks for structural repairs or custom metalwork as needed.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to reduce equipment downtime.
  • Maintain kitchen LPG gas-operated equipment by performing preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain laundry equipment, steam-operated, by performing preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain all refrigeration systems in the hotel, including walk-in chillers and freezers, and perform gas welding as required.
  • Maintain all machinery in the maintenance department, including repair or replacement of mechanical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, or repair defective components in boilers.
  • Maintain plant rooms, including knowledge of electrical arc welding.
  • Follow manufacturers' recommended maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining logs, records, and machinery history.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Complete work orders for inside or outside machine shop work, such as carpentry, vinyl repair, painting, or plumbing maintenance.

Respond and attend to guest repair requests, communicating effectively to resolve maintenance issues with minimal supervision. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, including cleaning and lubrication. Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines. Carry equipment (e.g., tools, radio). Identify, locate, and operate all shut-off valves for equipment. Maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies as needed. Ensure daily activities and issues are communicated across shifts using approved communication methods. Demonstrate advanced ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics related to plumbing and HVAC systems. Exhibit above-average engineering operations skills and strong general mechanical ability. Show proficiency in at least three categories (e.g., air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems, carpentry, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, building management), with basic skills in others. Maintain safe use of hand and power tools, performing complex repairs on property, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment, ensuring compliance with standards and codes. Troubleshoot and repair various equipment, including pumps, motors, plumbing, electrical devices, and HVAC systems. Use Lockout/Tagout procedures before maintenance. Display advanced knowledge of engineering computer programs related to preventative maintenance and energy management. Perform advanced troubleshooting of MEP systems and mentor other engineers. Fulfill Engineer on Duty responsibilities, including readings and rounds.

Follow all safety, security, and company policies; report hazards, accidents, or injuries; complete safety training and certifications; and store flammable materials properly. Maintain personal appearance and confidentiality, and protect company assets. Welcome and acknowledge guests, anticipate and address service needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and thank guests sincerely. Adhere to quality standards, develop positive relationships, support team goals, and communicate professionally. Perform physical tasks, including lifting, moving, reaching, and climbing, and use computers for information retrieval. Perform other duties as requested.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or G.E.D., with vocational or technical training.
  • Extensive experience and training in general maintenance, electrical, or refrigeration, including inventory management and surface preparation.
  • At least 2 years of hotel engineering/maintenance experience.
  • No supervisory experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Universal CFC Certification.
  • Meet applicable state and federal certification and licensing requirements.
