General Manager - Transmission & Distribution Division - UAE

Job Main Scope

Overall supervision and management of technical, commercial, and operational matters within the Transmission and Distribution Division at Site Technology. The role focuses on providing comprehensive Transmission and Distribution solutions across all industries in the UAE, including specialized expertise in:

• UP to 220KV Substation Construction (Automation, Switchgear, Package Substations, Power Transformers)
• UP to 220KV Cabling Systems
• Overhead Transmission and Distribution Lines

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Engineering Degree (Electrical Engineering preferred)
• Experience: Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in the Transmission and Distribution sector, with at least 12-15 years in managing similar operations specifically in the UAE market
• Languages:
• English: Excellent (verbal and written)
• Arabic: Excellent (verbal and written)

Pre-requisite Skills & Qualifications

• Extensive technical knowledge in transmission and distribution systems, specifically: Substation construction and automation (DMS/RTU), UP to 220KV switchgear and power transformers, UP to 220KV cabling systems and installation techniques, Overhead line infrastructure (towers, poles, conductors)
• Strong industry knowledge of the UAE transmission and distribution networks and understanding of customer satisfaction drivers in the local electrical infrastructure market
• Proven experience with multiple manufacturers and technologies in Transmission and Distribution equipment, including substation automation, switchgear, and power transformers
• Skilled at action planning, execution, and follow-up in complex Transmission and Distribution projects involving substations, cabling, and overhead lines
• Demonstrated ability to lead change and process improvements in a dynamic Transmission and Distribution environment
• Strong team-building and leadership skills in multicultural settings
• Keen organizational awareness and commitment to developing people
• Effective conflict resolution skills
• Ability to manage multiple Transmission and Distribution projects and priorities simultaneously
• Strong work ethic, sense of accountability, integrity, and urgency

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Planning and Management

• Set up, plan, and control the Transmission and Distribution Division's activities across key technical areas:
• Substation construction and automation
• Cabling systems
• Overhead transmission line installation
• Co-develop and implement division policies and procedures aligned with UAE Transmission and Distribution regulations
• Prepare and manage division budgets and financial forecasts for transmission and distribution operations
• Develop strategies to enhance revenues and create growth in specialized Transmission and Distribution sectors

2. Sales and Business Development

• Drive market awareness and division growth in the UAE transmission and distribution sector
• Conduct effective sales calls and establish key client relationships with TRANSCO, ADWEA, DEWA, SEWA, FEWA, major developers, industrial clients, and government entities for Transmission and Distribution projects
• Identify new business opportunities in Transmission and Distribution projects including:
• Substation construction (automation, switchgear, package substations)
• Cabling systems (trenching, installation, termination)
• Overhead transmission line infrastructure
• Generate and present high-quality proposals for substation, cabling, and overhead line projects

3. Technical and Operational Oversight

• Ensure overall supervision of technical and commercial matters in all Transmission and Distribution projects
• Stay updated on new technologies and products in:
• Substation automation (DMS/RTU)
• Switchgear and power transformers
• Cabling systems and installation techniques
• Overhead line infrastructure (towers, poles, conductors)
• Oversee product development initiatives relevant to the division's Transmission and Distribution expertise areas
• Maintain high standards of quality and operational excellence in accordance with TRANSCO, ADWEA, DEWA, SEWA and FEWA standards and specifications for Transmission and Distribution infrastructure

4. Team Leadership and Development

• Build, nurture, and leverage the power of teamwork across specialized Transmission and Distribution teams focused on substations, cabling, and overhead lines
• Design and maintain the division's structure and staffing requirements for effective Transmission and Distribution operations
• Set achievable objectives for staff involved in substations, cabling, and overhead line projects
• Provide coaching and support to improve staff skills and performance in Transmission and Distribution technical areas

5. Financial Management

• Supervise general accounting according to agreed budgets for Transmission and Distribution operations
• Analyse statistical information to monitor division performance across substation, cabling, and overhead line projects
• Coordinate the preparation of division budgets and financial forecasts for Transmission and Distribution activities

6. Stakeholder Management

• Report to the Chairman with regular updates on sales and market trends in the UAE Transmission and Distribution sector
• Coordinate with internal departments (CAO, CFO, other Division Heads)
• Manage relationships with external stakeholders (TRANSCO, ADWEA, DEWA, SEWA, FEWA, major developers, consultants, contractors, government regulatory agencies, partners, suppliers) related to Transmission and Distribution infrastructure projects

7. Continuous Improvement

• Identify and address operational challenges in Transmission and Distribution projects promptly, including:
• Substation construction and automation issues
• Cabling installation challenges
• Overhead line infrastructure complexities
• Implement process improvements through better staff coaching and technical training in specialized Transmission and Distribution areas
• Focus on value-added objectives and enhanced performance metrics for Transmission and Distribution solutions

Performance Measures

• Division financial performance (revenue, profitability) from Transmission and Distribution projects including substations, cabling systems, and overhead lines
• Market share growth and new business acquisition in the UAE transmission and distribution sector, particularly with key utility companies (TRANSCO, ADWEA, DEWA, SEWA, FEWA)
• Customer satisfaction with completed substation, cabling, and overhead line projects
• Operational efficiency and project completion rates across all Transmission and Distribution technical areas
• Team performance and technical competency development in specialized Transmission and Distribution skills
• Innovation and new solutions in Transmission and Distribution technologies for substations, cabling, and overhead lines
• Compliance with UAE electrical and Transmission and Distribution network regulations, utility specifications, and company policies

• External: DEWA, ADWEA, SEWA, FEWA, major developers, industrial clients, consultants, contractors, government regulatory agencies, partners, suppliers, subcontractors & legal bodies
