Our client is one of the largest and most diversified business conglomerates in the United Arab Emirates. Its main interests are in Construction, Education, Information Technology, Real Estate, Shopping & Retail, Sports & Leisure and Services. Headquartered in Sharjah, this company has projects & operations in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai, Sharjah and employs over 2000 people, including the labor category.

Due to their rapidly expanding business, we have been commissioned to find a General Manager for the construction side of their business.

All of the key responsibilities you would expect to see in the job spec of a GM position are there (such as profit and loss management, staff supervision, improving business prospects) but more interestingly, our client is looking for a special individual who in addition can offer vision, inspiration, passion, optimism and can enthuse trust from all they come into contact with. Through their natural openness to others, their objectivity and their enthusiasm for feedback, the successful candidate will help build a balanced team with a positive spirit who puts the success of the team ahead of any individual interests.

This is a hands-on role with daily activities to include:

  1. Coordination with government regulatory or other government agencies.
  2. Ensure all statutory and legal obligations are met.
  3. Project management reports for the senior management team.
  4. Supervision of 2000 employees.
  5. Hiring, firing, motivating and training employees.
  6. Establishing work plans and staffing schedules for each project.
  7. Identification of problems or issues at their early stages to facilitate alternative solutions.
  8. Management of difficult or emotional customer situations.

To qualify for a screening interview, you will need to be able to demonstrate 20+ years of hands-on construction industry experience and a minimum of 8+ years in a similar management role in the UAE. Ideally, you will have experience in design details, the detailed engineering program, the entire civil, mechanical and electrical construction work and the design, creation and installation of furniture.
