Role Overview
A Design Technologist in a design systems unit serves as a bridge between designers and developers—supporting both to build consistent, high-quality digital products across the organization. The Design System Engineer acts as a workflow integrator, ensuring cohesion between design and engineering.
Ideal for someone who can take design ideas from prototypes through to production-ready code.
Responsibilities :
- Collaborate with designers to translate high-fidelity UI designs into interactive, coded UI components.
- Build and maintain design-system components (React, VUE, Angular) ensuring design consistency across products.
- Develop accessible, performant, responsive interfaces (WCAG standards, internationalization).
- Document design patterns, assist in creating and maintaining the style guide and code library.
- Document Design System components in Storybook.
- Work within agile methodologies, participate in Agile ceremonies across Tribes.
- Collaborate closely with front-end engineers to refine components, define, and integrate design tokens and APIs.
Requirements
Technical Skills :
- HTML5, CSS3 (SASS / LESS), JavaScript (ES6+) – solid foundation
- Familiarity with at least one modern UI framework or library (React / VUE / Angular)
- Build / design tooling: Storybook, Styleguidist, Figma‑to‑code plugins, Babel, Webpack
- Understanding of component architecture: theming, tokens, props API
- Accessibility (WCAG 2.0 / 2.1), responsive design, mobile-first
- Version control (GitHub)
- Experience with Agile / Scrum methodologies
Design & UX Skills :
- Proficient in Figma
- Strong sense of interaction, visual, and motion design with attention to detail
- UX fundamentals: user flows, accessibility, inclusive design
- Familiarity with ISO usability standards (ISO 9241) is a plus
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication and cross-functional teamwork abilities
- Problem-solving mindset and attention to detail
- Analytical mindset: use data and feedback to iterate
- Self-starter, proactive in system improvements
Experience & Qualifications
- 2–5 years in front-end, product design, UX engineering, or similar
- Experience working on or contributing to a design system
- Bachelor’s degree in HCI, interaction design, computer science, or a related field preferred
