Job summary
A leading company in the logistics sector is seeking a skilled Tyre Technician to oversee the maintenance and inspection of mobile plant equipment tyres. The role involves ensuring optimal tyre conditions, performing repairs, and maintaining safety standards. Candidates should have a secondary education with technical training and relevant experience, preferably in a shipyard environment.
Qualifications
- At least 1 year of relevant experience, preferably in a shipyard.
- Shipyard training preferred.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and maintain mobile plant equipment tyres.
- Report damage and perform preventive maintenance.
- Work within allocated timescales to meet targets.
Skills
Technical knowledge of tyre conditions
Ability to repair tubeless tires
Familiarity with lifting equipment
Education
Secondary school education or high school diploma
6-month technical course
Day-to-day operations:
- Inspect the condition and wear limits on all mobile plant equipment, including pneumatic, foam-filled, and solid tyres and wheels.
- Regularly check pneumatic tyres' inflation pressure and fill them according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
- Report any damage, abnormal wear patterns, or multiple tyre/wheel problems on vehicles.
- Maintain good working relationships with workers, foremen, supervisors, and management.
- Perform duties of a Foreman as required or appointed for individual projects.
- Work within allocated timescales to meet department targets.
- Attend training sessions related to departmental activities.
- Inspect all outgoing vehicle tyres for condition and expiry date.
- Carry out tyre inspections during preventive maintenance and provide feedback to the foreman regarding replacements.
- Maintain good housekeeping in all work areas.
- Follow day-to-day operational procedures related to your job to ensure work continuity.
Technical competencies:
- Basic knowledge of technical terms related to tyre expiry dates and tread patterns.
- Knowledge of using jacking and lifting equipment for tyre replacement.
- Familiarity with tyre replacement machines.
- Ability to repair tubeless tires and tubes.
- Apply appropriate engineering principles, techniques, and procedures.
Minimum requirements:
- Secondary school education with a 6-month technical course or high school diploma.
- Shipyard training preferred.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience, preferably in a shipyard.
