Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Finance Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial activities and processes within the company, with a particular focus on shipping and transport operations. The role involves financial planning, analysis, reporting, compliance, and control, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information. The ideal candidate must have experience in the maritime or transport sector and be comfortable working with shipping contracts, logistics documentation, and operational data.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including AP/AR, general ledger, cash flow management, and reconciliations.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal policies.
  • Develop and maintain robust internal controls over financial transactions and reporting.
Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans.
  • Monitor budget performance and perform variance analysis to highlight deviations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support management with strategic financial planning and scenario modeling.
  • Analyze financial aspects of shipping and transport operations, including voyage profitability, cost allocations, and revenue recognition.
  • Review charter party agreements, shipping contracts, and logistics-related paperwork to ensure accurate financial treatment and compliance.
  • Coordinate with operations and commercial teams to validate voyage results, demurrage/dispatch claims, and other operational income and expenses.
  • Oversee bunker accounting, port disbursement reconciliations, and vessel-related financial controls.
Data Analysis & Business Support
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret operational and financial data to provide actionable insights.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, and KPIs to track performance across shipping activities.
  • Support management decision-making through detailed financial modeling and analysis.
Audit & Compliance
  • Liaise with external auditors, banks, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Prepare audit schedules and coordinate annual audits.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate governance standards and local regulatory requirements.

Education & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting qualification preferred (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CA).

Experience:

  • Must have prior experience in shipping, maritime, or transport/logistics sectors.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of shipping operations, maritime contracts, charter parties, and logistics workflows.
