The Farm Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the farm, ensuring optimal production, efficient resource management, and compliance with industry standards. This role includes planning, organizing, and supervising farm activities to maximize productivity, sustainability, and profitability.

Farm Operations & Production Management

• Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily farm activities, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
• Monitor and manage overall farm productivity.
• Ensure compliance with quality, environmental, and safety regulations.
• Implement and optimize farming techniques to improve yield, sustainability, and operational efficiency.

Workforce Supervision & Training

• Lead and supervise a team of farmworkers and support staff, ensuring tasks are completed effectively.
• Provide training, guidance, and performance management to enhance productivity and skill development.
• Develop and manage farm budgets, tracking expenses and optimizing resource allocation.
• Monitor farm expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining productivity.
• Ensure efficient procurement and utilization of farm equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Keep accurate records of inventory, production data, and financial reports.

Equipment & Infrastructure Maintenance

• Oversee the maintenance and proper functioning of farm machinery, equipment, and facilities.
• Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed to minimize downtime and repair costs.

Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in farm operations.
• Implement and monitor biosecurity measures and risk management protocols.
• Maintain accurate documentation and reporting for audits, inspections, and certifications.

Planning & Development

• Develop and implement strategic plans for farm growth and long-term sustainability.
• Identify and implement innovative farming techniques to enhance efficiency and profitability.
• Conduct research and stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.

Soil Health & Fertility Management

• Conduct soil testing and analysis to determine nutrient levels and soil structure.
• Implement crop rotation, cover cropping, and organic matter enrichment to enhance soil fertility.
• Use natural or synthetic fertilizers based on soil requirements to optimize crop yield.
• Prevent soil erosion through contour farming, mulching, and other conservation techniques.

Irrigation & Water Resource Management

• Monitor water availability and distribution for efficient irrigation practices.
• Implement drip, sprinkler, or flood irrigation systems based on crop requirements. Ensure water conservation and rainwater harvesting for sustainable water use.
• Test and maintain water quality for irrigation to prevent soil contamination.

Pest & Disease Control

• Implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to reduce the impact of pests and diseases.
• Monitor and control weeds, insects, and plant pathogens through biological, chemical, or mechanical methods.
• Use safe and effective pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

Crop Selection & Rotation Planning

• Select high-yield and climate-resistant crop varieties based on regional suitability.
• Plan seasonal and rotational cropping to maintain soil health and reduce dependency on chemical inputs.
• Diversify crop production to enhance farm sustainability and profitability. Ensure seed sourcing from certified and reliable suppliers for high-quality production.

Sustainable & Organic Farming Practices

• Implement zero-waste and eco-friendly farming techniques to reduce environmental impact.
• Utilize composting, natural fertilizers, and biological pest control for organic certification.
• Promote agroforestry and biodiversity conservation to maintain farm ecosystem balance.
• Transition towards regenerative agriculture to improve soil health and carbon sequestration.

Climate Adaptation & Precision Farming

• Use climate data and weather forecasting tools to plan farming activities.
• Adopt precision agriculture technologies like GPS mapping, drone monitoring, and sensor-based irrigation.
• Develop contingency plans for extreme weather conditions such as drought, floods, or heatwaves.
• Utilize climate-smart farming techniques to enhance resilience against changing weather patterns.

Biodiversity & Environmental Conservation

• Encourage polyculture and intercropping to support a diverse farm ecosystem.
• Protect native plant species and pollinators to promote natural biodiversity.
• Reduce chemical runoff and pollution by maintaining natural buffer zones.
• Participate in reforestation and conservation programs to restore degraded land.

Farmer & Community Engagement

Required Skills & Qualifications :

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agriculture, Farm Management, Agribusiness, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in farm management, operations, or agribusiness.
• Strong expertise in operational planning, resource management, and staff supervision.
• Experience in financial planning, budgeting, and cost control.
• Knowledge of farm operations, maintenance, and best practices.
• Ability to operate and oversee the use of farm machinery and equipment.
• Strong record-keeping and data analysis skills for operational tracking.
