Role Context
The Exploration Geologist - Prospect Evaluation will lead and participate in geological activities across exploration studies, regional evaluations, prospect maturation, reservoir mapping, basin analysis, geochemical studies, volumetric assessment, and data integration. The position requires strong experience in exploration geology, well log interpretation, prospect ranking, reservoir property mapping, consultant management, data quality control, and multidisciplinary collaboration with geophysicists, petrophysicists, petroleum engineers, Group Companies, joint venture partners, vendors, and consultants. The role contributes to defining exploration opportunities, improving prospect quality, supporting bid rounds, and strengthening ADNOC Group's exploration decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, initiate, coordinate, and conduct exploration geological studies focused on conventional portfolio updates, tight gas play maturation, and deep gas reservoir evaluation.
- Perform well log interpretations in close cooperation with petrophysicists to support reservoir understanding, prospect maturation, and exploration evaluation.
- Conduct well log correlations, regional reservoir property mapping, play mapping, prospect mapping, and other geological mapping activities.
- Carry out regional play evaluations, prospect ranking, maturation studies, basin analysis, geochemical studies, and hydrocarbon resource assessments.
- Prepare exploration well proposals, snapshot proposals, volumetric assessments, technical reports, and integrated geological recommendations.
- Integrate petroleum engineering, geological, geophysical, petrophysical, reservoir, and well data to improve exploration interpretation quality.
- Propose, justify, and prepare scope-of-work documents for geological studies carried out by consultants and third-party service providers.
- Participate in technical tender evaluations for geology-related projects and provide technical input to procurement and legal teams.
- Monitor and quality‑control geological consultant work to ensure accuracy, clarity, contract compliance, and adherence to agreed scope‑of‑work requirements.
- Report consultant study outcomes to management, relevant team members, and concerned internal or external parties.
- Propose and justify data gathering activities including core acquisition, pressure measurements, wireline logs, seismic data, and other geophysical data.
- Recommend deepening of development wells drilled by Group Companies, SPC companies, and joint venture partners to evaluate deeper horizons and tight gas potential.
- Plan and support training and development of UAE national employees and junior exploration geologists.
- Assess training needs, prepare structured familiarization programs, monitor progress, and provide technical guidance to junior team members.
- Liaise with geological software suppliers to remain updated on software developments, new technologies, and tools that can add value to exploration activities.
- Attend technical conferences, seminars, and review professional publications to support continuous improvement in exploration geology practices.
- Propose and prepare data exchanges or data trades with companies active in countries and emirates surrounding Abu Dhabi to strengthen ADNOC's corporate database.
- Contribute to weekly highlights, weekly action points, daily exploration well drilling reports, MIS updates, and other management reporting requirements.
- Recommend acquisition of new software and hardware related to exploration geology and support the preparation of technical justifications.
- Coordinate, assist, or delegate ad hoc tasks such as university data requests, training requests, GIS database support, and third‑party technical requests.
- Ensure receipt, quality control, calibration, and updating of corporate and exploration databases with data from service providers, Group Companies, SPC companies, joint ventures, and other third parties.
- Support Exploration Function strategy development, annual budget preparation, task and target definition, risk register updates, audit reports, and management initiatives.
- Assist in preparation of bid rounds, including data packages, roadshow presentations, briefing documents, and technical materials.
- Represent ADNOC Group in technical meetings with OPCOs, OPCO shareholders, SPC companies, new joint ventures, vendors, consultants, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, international standards, HSE procedures, sustainability guidelines, and ADNOC Code of Practices.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor Degree in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or an equivalent discipline.
- Minimum 9 years of experience in exploration geology, including play evaluation, prospect ranking, prospect maturation, and exploration well proposal preparation.
- Strong experience in geological interpretation, regional play evaluation, basin analysis, hydrocarbon resource assessment, and geological mapping.
- Proven ability to prepare exploration well proposals, geological studies, prospect assessments, volumetric evaluations, and technical recommendations.
- Hands‑on experience with well log interpretation, well log correlation, reservoir property mapping, play mapping, prospect mapping, and geochemical study integration.
- Solid understanding of conventional reservoirs, tight gas reservoirs, deep gas exploration, and hydrocarbon potential assessment.
- Experience working on multidisciplinary exploration studies with geoscience, petrophysics, petroleum engineering, reservoir engineering, and drilling teams.
- Ability to prepare consultant scope‑of‑work documents, support tender evaluations, monitor study delivery, and conduct technical quality control.
- Experience managing geological databases, exploration datasets, service provider data, GIS‑related information, and corporate subsurface records.
- Exposure to exploration bid rounds, data packages, roadshow materials, technical presentations, and stakeholder briefing documents.
- Strong knowledge of geological software, exploration workflows, mapping tools, database systems, and new technology applications in exploration.
- Ability to train, mentor, and develop junior geologists and UAE national employees.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work with Group Companies, joint ventures, shareholders, consultants, vendors, and government‑related entities.
