Job summary

Sharjah Art Foundation in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, seeks a seasoned curator to lead exhibition projects, manage budgets, and coordinate with artists, lenders, and partner institutions.

The role requires a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields with substantial experience, strong editing and communication skills, and willingness to work 9:00–17:00, Monday to Thursday, with occasional evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in fine arts, humanities, or social studies with 5+ years of experience in related fields; OR Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of experience.
• Experience in exhibition management, budgeting, and coordinating external collaborators.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain the project budget of exhibitions or projects assigned by Team Head by obtaining estimates, processing invoices, maintaining budget files, and liaising with Accounts.
• Serve as main contact for exhibitions with external collaborators and coordinate the entirety of exhibition activities including agreements, research, production, installation, and travel.
• Research loans and coordinate with Operations to ensure safe loan and exhibit of works.
• Write and edit interpretive texts related to exhibitions, in collaboration with curators and artists, and coordinate publication materials.
• Compile information for guidebooks, wall labels, and websites, and manage exhibition checklists and related databases.
• Manage trainees, interns, and other freelance staff.
• Coordinate with all Foundation departments to share information timely.
• Assist in pairing exhibitions with other Foundation projects such as Learning and Research, Film, Music, Performance and Collections.
• Organise invited committees and coordinate with members as needed.
• Assist in touring exhibitions to external institutions.
• Coordinate with Communications on publicity and provide material for press releases; conduct press interviews as necessary.
• Coordinate with Hospitality and Guest Relations to host guests and support private views and tours; attend events as appropriate.
• Represent SAF at public events and meetings.
• Maintain files and correspondence; archive past exhibition files.
• Report to Team Head regularly and undertake other tasks as needed.
