JOB SUMMARY / INTRODUCTION

The Commodity trading desk provides commodity hedges and risk management solutions across a wide product range, including Energy, Carbon, Base and Precious Metals, and Agriculture. This role seeks a senior Originator/Trader in Environmental Products with primary responsibility for developing FAB's Carbon Markets franchise across both Compliance and Voluntary Markets, enhancing the Commodity desk's capabilities, and growing the Carbon franchise. The role involves active participation in the UAE carbon ecosystem, developing strong product offerings for regional and global clients, partnering with sales and coverage teams, coordinating with ESG and other product groups, managing carbon trading and risk activities, generating P&L through detailed carbon market expertise, building client and counterparty relationships, and supporting the development of a carbon flow business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop FAB Carbon Markets franchise (both Compliance Markets and Voluntary Markets).
• Enhance the Commodity desk capabilities and help growing the Carbon franchise.
• Actively participate in the UAE Carbon ecosystems and working group and represent FAB as relevant.
• Develop a strong product offering to offer to FAB Regional and Global Clients.
• Partner proactively with all sales team and coverage teams to support and enhance our client strategy and delivery.
• Work in coordination with FAB ESG team and the other products group (GCF and GTB) whenever a collaboration is relevant.
• Trade, price and risk manage all compliance programs (ETS).
• Support pricing, risk management and origination activity of carbon offsets.
• Generate P&L with a detailed knowledge of Carbon markets.
• Establish relationships with key clients and counterparties.
• Support distribution avenues to establish a carbon flow business.
• Price, Execute and Risk manage the Carbon products.
• Manage risk position of the desk within the applicable limits and desk risk tolerance and monitor the risks in the global commodity book.
• Be accountable for the risk levels and limits set by desk head and be responsible for adding revenue streams to Commodities.
• Work closely with the sales team creating solutions.
• Drive the Carbon offsets origination initiative.
• Work with other international FAB centers capturing flow and pricing for new additional local customers business.
• Continually interface with desk head to ensure trading positions are reported daily, and the long-term requirement of FAB remains the target.
• Maintain and enhance market counterparty and customer perception of FAB as the number one institution for local banks and corporates to handle their commodity business hedging requirements.

REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 7 years' experience in commodity trading with specifically strong experience in Carbon.
• Strong knowledge of commodity markets, trading platforms and trading systems.
• Strong analytic background and eager to learn.
• Demonstrable track record of managing commodities risk.
• Promotes and encourages co-operation within the team and its stakeholders. Maintaining an open dialogue between desks.
• Anticipates customer needs and responds to requirements in a timely and efficient manner. Show's strength in building positive relationships with existing and new clients.
• Recognizes and demonstrates the ability to exploit new business avenues, generating additional flow for the unit up and beyond his remit. As a strong team player would show the ability to distribute important news to the room/network.
• Adapts to change and supports any new desk initiatives.
• Promotes new ways of working and remains of a confident and approachable nature.
• Has a comprehensive mastery of the key financial and commercial performance indicators of the strategic business unit.
• Shows great awareness in developing new products that have the potential to increase revenue and keep the bank at the forefront of changes.
