You, as an ESG Regulatory Compliance Counsel, will be part of the Hitachi Energy Regulatory team by working as hybrid working model. You will play a crucial role in ensuring Hitachi Energy’s compliance with relevant laws and regulations across the EMEA region, advising on ESG-related matters, and contributing to our sustainability goals. Your responsibilities will include monitoring regulatory changes within EMEA, providing guidance on legal requirements, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate ESG regulatory principles into our operations. Reporting directly to the Regional ESG Legal Counsel, you will be instrumental in driving sustainability and regulatory compliance.

How you will make an impact :

Monitor and report on changes in ESG and Product Material Compliance regulations and industry standards regulations in Middle East, Africa and Europe impacting Hitachi Energy, including opportunities and risks.

Conduct legal research and analysis on ESG regulations and compliance requirements.

Provide legal advice and support to various departments on ESG matters.

Translating legal requirements into company, business, and product impact; developing effective compliance and implementation strategies including adequate risk management.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement ESG initiatives and compliance activities.

Supporting ESG and product regulatory compliance roadmap.

Supporting Regional ESG Counsel on various regional activities.

Aligning local or regional approaches with global processes and requirements, ensuring consistent and efficient implementation throughout Hitachi Energy.

Guiding and coordinating legal correspondence with relevant stakeholders across Hitachi Energy’s organization.

Supporting the establishment of new or improvement of existing compliance processes given the evolving nature of ESG regulations

Proactively identifying and addressing compliance-related issues and challenges, leading internal investigations, and supporting Hitachi Energy’s legal position.

Ensuring the implementation of corporate regulations and standards in Middle East, Africa and Europe, monitoring execution.

Developing and providing education to all stakeholders, creating effective ways for visible knowledge sharing throughout the company.

Embed compliance, reporting and declarations into existing processes and tools (e.g., SharePoint) as needed.

Your background

Minimum bachelor’s degree in law from an accredited law school; bar admission desirable.

Minimum 5 years of experience with ESG regulations, with a focus on environmental or Energy industry specific regulations.

Workable knowledge in chemistry, materials, or engineering is a plus.

Excellent communication skills at all levels in a complex matrix organization.

Ability to work and report remotely, with an open-minded and dynamic attitude to changes, and intercultural sensitivity.

Experience in project management.

Pro-active, self-driven personality, creative thinker, hands-on, and problem-solving mentality to challenge the "status quo".

Willingness to develop the role and scope considering the evolving regulatory environment and to travel (10-20%).

Proficiency in both spoken and written English and Arabic; knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
