The English Editor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and revising materials for publication across various media platforms managed by the Media Center, including magazines, brochures, social media platforms, and the University of Sharjah website. The Editor ensures the accuracy, consistency, and quality of written content while maintaining high standards in both English and Arabic.
1. Attend events requiring the editor's presence, assist in covering the event, and write press releases, reports, or other related press content in English and Arabic Language. Moreover, coordinate with television channels for media coverage.
2. Maintain and organize an archive of media content, including press releases, reports, photographs, and videos. In addition, to sharing these files when needed to departments and colleges.
3. Prepare comprehensive monthly and daily reports in a timely and accurate manner.
4. Conduct interviews with students, faculty, and administrative staff before, during, and after events, as required.
5. Coordinate with media institutions, including television and radio outlets, on reginal and global scales. to ensure effective collaboration.
6. Review and understand all relevant media, marketing and branding policies and procedures in order to be able to carry out daily work tasks as expected, and answer all stakeholder inquiries, clarifications, or any assistance accurately and efficiently.
7. Develop ideas for media content, as well as modify and rewrite written material, correct spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors.
8. Help set publication standards and establish goals and expectations, as well as adhere to UoS's specific writing style guides.
9. Brainstorm new stories, series, concepts, themes, and formats. As well as suggest stories and generate headline ideas in alignment with targeted audience's preferences.
10. Review and evaluate written articles submitted by student, faculty and staff members.
11. Edit written material for accuracy, style and readability, as well as recommend changes where necessary.
12. Verify facts cited in written material by the concerned department or college before publication to ensure accuracy and integrity, proofread and review content before submitting publications to the authorized print house or publisher to ensure accuracy and eliminate errors.
13. Write articles and work in conjunction with other writers, assigns stories, and prepares news and general feature articles for publication.
14. Ensure publication and production of a variety of materials from on-campus services and activities.
15. Develop and maintain new outlets for publication(s), such as updating, revising, or creating mailing lists to reach a wider audience.
16. Attend media events, workshops, and conferences offering training sessions and networking opportunities to stay current with the latest trends in writing news editing and media .This includes actively building a professional network within the academic and publishing community .
17. Collaborate with the multimedia section for social media news and published visuals to ensure photos and videos are thoroughly reviewed and aligned with the content of the press release prior to publication.
18. Coordinate and communicate effectively with internal and external colleagues in order to complete work tasks, answer questions and provide assistance.
19. Assist in preparing UoS electronic newspaper.
20. Complete any other job-related tasks as assigned by the line manager within the expected time limit.
