Job summary

GEMS Wellington, Dubai Hills invites applications for an outstanding English Second in Charge – Senior School from January 2027. You will lead curriculum development, assessment and data analysis while supporting staff development and school improvement in a high-performing department.

Working with the Head of English, you will model exemplary practice, oversee quality assurance, and contribute to wider school priorities and safeguarding across KS3–KS5 in a fully inclusive Dubai Hills setting.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate excellent subject knowledge across English Language and English Literature.
• Strong understanding of curriculum design, assessment and data analysis.
• Proven ability to model outstanding teaching and learning.
• Demonstrate strong organisational and leadership skills.
• Be able to coach, support and develop colleagues effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Solid knowledge of British curriculum expectations and KHDA/BSO standards.
• Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
• Plan and develop English curriculum across KS3–KS5 with sequencing.
• Use assessment data to identify trends and support interventions.
• Contribute to departmental quality assurance and observations.

Responsibilities

• Lead the English department in curriculum development and delivery across KS3–KS5.
• Analyse pupil progress data and drive targeted interventions and improvements.
• Model exemplary teaching and mentor colleagues and new staff.
• Support strategic leadership and contribute to school improvement priorities.
• Deputise for Head of English when appropriate and collaborate with leaders.
