The Role

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and motivate our engineering team, while also fulfilling certain Scrum Master responsibilities to ensure effective delivery and continuous improvement. The role focuses on people management, technical oversight, and engineering excellence, along with facilitating Agile processes and empowering the team.

Engineering Managers at Digital Zone view their team as their product, ensuring technical credibility, safeguarding team health, hiring top talent, and enabling success. They own product delivery, seek ongoing productivity improvements, and coordinate across departments. They also perform Scrum Master duties such as removing impediments, managing sprint events, and promoting continuous improvement.

Location

This role is on-site in Dubai, UAE, with some remote flexibility.

Responsibilities

Team & People Management

  • Manage engineers, overseeing performance, growth, and well-being.
  • Mentor and coach engineers to develop their skills and experience.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, providing clear performance feedback.
  • Promote psychological safety and a positive team culture.
  • Recruit globally distributed talent, conducting managerial interviews, and preparing the team for technical interviews.

Technical & Delivery Ownership

  • Own product delivery, balancing deadlines with code quality and team productivity.
  • Plan projects for major epics, aligning with business goals and collaborating cross-functionally.
  • Maintain technical credibility through code reviews and staying updated on engineering practices.
  • Enhance product quality, security, and performance.
  • Participate in Incident Management on-call rotations, working with Infrastructure engineers to meet availability and reliability targets.

Agile Facilitation & Scrum Master Responsibilities

  • Coordinate sprints, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups.
  • Guide the team in adopting Agile/Scrum practices, fostering maturity.
  • Facilitate communication across teams and stakeholders.
  • Manage scope and timelines, focusing on sprint goals.
  • Identify and resolve impediments or conflicts.
  • Work with Product Owners to refine backlogs and handle new requests.
  • Champion continuous improvement and maintain healthy workflows.

Process & Strategy

  • Draft quarterly OKRs and KPIs aligned with company objectives.
  • Implement process improvements to boost productivity, transparency, and quality.
  • Lead technical decision-making within the team, making final calls when needed.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years in Software Engineering or related fields.
  • 3+ years of full-remote work experience with proven self-management.
  • 2+ years in engineering leadership/management in fast-paced environments.
  • Familiarity with Scrum/Agile practices and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent communication and servant leadership skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Have

  • Experience with backend technologies like Node.js (TypeScript) or Go.
  • Knowledge of modern frontend frameworks (React + Next).
  • Experience in large-scale e-commerce or product companies.
  • Startup experience.
