Job description

Job Purpose

The job holder is responsible to provide with the Analyzers Expertise in the Instrumentation & Control Engineering to ensure the operating condition for all respective equipment to support Borouge’s operations and systems in line with original equipment manufacturer’s user guide and engineering standards, and relevant ADNOC, AGES and International Standards.

This role includes; act as Technical Authority for Online and Offline Analyzer systems installed in all Borouge Plants. Focal point for all projects related to Analyzers raised by Control & Automation for Maintenance improvements or by RSI as new projects in an efficient, effective, and safe work execution and according to the required Company policies and quality standards; ensure Analyzers performance and availability by following established procedures; implement improvements in PM planning/scheduling to enhance equipment reliability and availability.

Key Accountabilities

Maintenance Programs and Planning

  • Develop and improve predictive, preventive, and major maintenance programs to enhance reliability of plant equipment systems.
  • Identify Turnaround (TA) job scope and lead major shutdown activities to ensure timely execution of maintenance plans.
  • Provide inputs for preparation of budgets and maintenance business plans to control costs3.
  • Review and update AGES/BGS/HSECES procedures to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Perform technical screening of e-MOCs to ensure technical accuracy and feasibility.
  • Assess and rank improvement proposals to prioritize initiatives that enhance plant reliability.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and design review on equipment failures to identify corrective actions.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues with analyzer systems, including hardware and software problems.
  • Provide field support and advise other engineers, supervisors, and technicians on critical maintenance activities.
  • Perform technical evaluation and inspection for expensive or critical items to ensure they meet predefined specifications.
  • Provide technical oversight for contractor activities related to analyzer installation and maintenance.
  • Lead calibration activities for critical process analyzers to ensure adherence to operational standards.

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure all analyzer systems comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols (e.g., ISO, IEC 61511, ATEX).
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, calibrations, and analyzer performance in the plant’s computerized maintenance management system (e.g., SAP PM).
  • Prepare reports for internal and external audits to ensure proper documentation and regulatory compliance.
  • Validate analyzer performance against process specifications and regulatory guidelines, making adjustments as needed.
  • Support certification and re-validation processes for analyzers during audits and inspections.
  • Identify statutory requirements as per government regulations, ADNOC COP, OEM, suppliers, and international standards to produce procedures and checklists.

Analyzers Excellence

  • Analyze strengths and weaknesses of current approaches and develop new solutions to enhance reliability standards.
  • Propose improvements in business processes and procedures to reduce risk and improve safety standards.
  • Implement advanced techniques for predictive maintenance and condition monitoring of analyzers to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
  • Integrate new technologies (e.g., Digital Twin, IIoT) for enhanced data analysis and process optimization.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance analyzer efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve data accuracy.
  • Propose and implement improvements to analyzer maintenance workflows, focusing on cost reduction and increased system reliability.

Technical Coordination

  • Coordinate all Instruments & Control System related affairs with other ADNOC Group Companies and within Borouge to ensure seamless operations.
  • Act as an Analyzer focal point for projects raised both internally and externally to ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Process Control, Electrical, and Mechanical) to troubleshoot system malfunctions affecting analyzers.
  • Provide technical support during emergency breakdowns and process upsets to minimize production losses.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to optimize process control strategies, integrating analyzer data with process automation systems.
  • Collaborate with project teams, including process engineers, automation specialists, and vendor representatives, to specify, procure, and commission new analyzer systems.

Training and Development

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and analyzer technicians to ensure they acquire necessary skills.
  • Organize training sessions for the team on the latest technologies, standards, and best practices related to analyzers.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
  • Develop and maintain codes of practice to ensure standards are thoroughly understood and consistently complied with.
  • Follow up and supervise the installation and commissioning of new projects related to the power system.
  • Assist in the development of a comprehensive Maintenance Management System for all systems and equipment.

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office and SAP system.
  • Fluency in English Language; written and oral

Minimum Experience & Knowledge & Skills

  • Minimum of 5 – 8 years of experience working with process analyzers in a petrochemical, oil & gas, or polymer manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing a wide range of analyzer systems (e.g., gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, optical analyzers).
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience, with the ability to manage complex troubleshooting and maintenance tasks.
  • Familiar with HSE policies, HAZOP studies and Hazardous area classifications and its installations
  • Trouble-shooting & Failure Analysis techniques,
  • Knowledge of international standards for electrical equipment/systems and CMMS.

Professional Certifications

Preferred toi be certified in one or more of the following, or relevant certifications:

  • Certified Automation Professional (CAP) – ISA
  • Certified Instrumentation Specialist (CIS) – ISA
  • IEC 61511 Functional Safety Certification (TÜV or Exida)
  • Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) – SMRP
  • Six Sigma Green Belt (optional but beneficial)
