Position Overview : The Elementary School Library Assistant will support the daily activities, planning, and supervision of students in the library, under the guidance and supervision of the librarians.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Support library lessons when requested under the supervision of the librarians.
- Daily supervision of students during class and / or families during open hours.
- Assist students to locate materials within the library catalog and the space itself.
- Work with small groups of students as requested.
- Check in / out library books and resources.
- Prepare all library holds and communicate with the community when books are ready.
- Manage communication from the ES Library email account.
- Process new books and repair damaged books.
- Sort, clean, and re-shelve books.
- Assist in the annual inventory of library materials and the preparation of lists of missing books to be discarded.
- Operate and care for equipment used in the library for instructional purposes.
- Prepare work orders, requests for supplies, and maintenance orders.
- Help to create engaging and dynamic displays.
- Participate in in-service training programs and / or professional growth opportunities as requested by the supervisor.
- Manage other duties as assigned by the librarians.
- Openly support and abide by all school policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications :
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
- Prior experience in customer service oriented work environment.
- Tactful and professional front office skills.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Broad knowledge of a variety of children’s literature and subjects.
- Prior experience in school library settings.
- Prior experience working with library systems and technology such as catalogs, email, spreadsheets, documents, and presentation slides, as well as other documentation and communication tools.
- Prior experience working with students in an educational setting.

- Ability to work collaboratively and provide support within the Library team and spaces.
- Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of all ASD employees.

- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and work independently despite interruptions and requests by school community (students, teachers, parents).
Terms of Employment :
This position is classified as a staff position. General working hours are from 7 : 45 am - 3 : 45 pm, Monday through Thursday and 7 : 45 am - 12 : 45 pm (on site) & 2 : 30 pm - 3 : 45 pm (remote / flexible) on Fridays. Flexibility with working hours is required to meet the needs of this role; start and end times for this position may be different than the general working hours to support access for students to the library before and / or after school.
