Job summary

A leading aluminium producer located in Dubai is seeking an Electrical Maintenance Technician to maintain and troubleshoot a variety of electrical machinery and systems in their power plant. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering along with GCC experience, particularly in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. This role requires strong skills in generator and switchgear maintenance, adherence to EHS standards, and the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Qualifications

  • GCC experience required, specifically including Saudi Arabia and Bahrain market exposure.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Holder: 3 years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Diploma Holder: 5 years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Hands-on experience of generators, switchgear, transformers.
  • Previous experience in a Power Plant or Heavy Industrial plant.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains electrical equipment.
  • Attends preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Uses maintenance systems to withdraw spare parts and maintain records.
  • Provides on-job training to new craftsmen.

Job description

JOB PURPOSE:

To trouble-shoot, repair, calibrate, re-commission and maintain efficiently a wide range of electrical machinery, equipment and electrical instruments to ensure their efficient operation and reduce production down time.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Trouble-shoots, repairs and maintains efficiently a wide range of electrical equipment and systems in power plant.
  • Attends preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance repairs, with minimum direction and supervision, (including “on call” duties, as and when required), to restore the electrical systems back to normalcy as quickly as possible.
  • Assesses technically the nature of jobs allocated with clear understanding of relevant methods and procedures including associated risks. Selects the required tools and equipment to complete such works in a safe and effective manner.
  • Carries out maintenance works in adherence with EHS standards and plant operating requirements to minimise workplace accidents / inquiries.
  • Uses the computerized maintenance system to withdraw spare parts from the warehouse and maintains records of all maintenance works completed.
  • A monitor repeated breakdowns and suggests and implements proper resolutions to avoid recurrence of similar problems.
  • Provides on-job training to new craftsmen and directs contract workforce in order to equip them with the necessary skills to be able to carry out maintenance repairs and services, in line with the agreed plans.
  • Reads and understands drawings effectively, trouble shoots, tests and diagnoses failures of production and operating plant equipment and carries out necessary repairs and calibration within the time constraint given to reduce production downtime with minimum direction and supervision.
  • Identifies the dangers related to High Voltage equipment and carries out the maintenance and breakdown activities safely and in line with EGA Health and Safety regulations and Electrical Maintenance Procedures.
  • Ensures that all maintenance work is carried out in accordance with the safety procedures and plant operational requirements.
  • If appointed in writing by EGA acts as an authorised person to receive Permit to Work documents as per Jabel Ali /Taweelah Power & Desalination Safety Rules.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.

Minimum Experience:

  • GCC experience required, specifically including Saudi Arabia and Bahrain market exposure
  • Bachelor’s Degree Holder: 3 years’ experience in a similar position (in a power plant and electrical sub-stations)
  • Diploma Holder: 5 years’ experience in a similar position (in a Power plant and electrical sub-stations).
  • Hands-on experience of generators, switchgear, transformers and electrical schemes.
  • Previous experience working in Power Plant or equivalent Heavy Industrial plant with exposure in High Voltage electrical environment.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of all electrical maintenance tools.
  • Conversant in generators, transformers, switchgear and electrical schemes.
  • Speak, read and write English to a good standard.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and assertive personality.
  • Computer literate.
  • Teamwork skills (including shift work is also essential)
  • Self-motivated and dedicated with a desire to work in a Multi-Cultural environment.
  • Knowledge of using advanced protection relay test equipment, advanced metering test equipment and high voltage test equipment.
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance systems, ordering spare parts and maintaining records.
