Job Title: Senior Engineer I
The Senior Engineer I is responsible for activities related to an assigned organizational element, program, project, or task. The role involves planning, conducting, and supervising engineering design reviews and analysis assignments, which may involve a major project or several less complex projects. These projects require competent application of engineering or scientific knowledge and may be broad in scope, requiring ingenuity and cross-functional coordination.
What You Will Do :
- Provide day-to-day leadership to the engineering staff assigned. Assign projects, monitor progress, and ensure high-quality service and good customer relations.
- Devise new approaches to problems and recommend changes in methods, procedures, or design as needed.
- Monitor the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity, and timeliness of all assigned projects.
- Apply extensive engineering knowledge in broad technical areas. Perform reviews and analyses, review work of others, and provide guidance and training.
- Participate in the development and modification of Rules. Advise staff on Rules and Regulations application.
- Prepare written responses to clients following established procedures.
- Maintain liaison with internal and external engineering specialists.
- Monitor performance, development, and training needs of engineers; inform management of manpower requirements.
- Assist in developing qualification statements, proposals, bids, and presentation materials.
What You Will Need :
Education and Experience
- Degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or related disciplines; an advanced degree is preferred.
- Minimum of five years of related experience for new graduates; more for experienced engineers.
For those with Hull backgrounds
- Degree in relevant engineering disciplines; a license is preferred.
- Proven computer literacy in engineering software.
- Exposure to Finite Element Method (coursework or research).
- Professional or chartered engineer license.
- At least ten years of related experience or two years as an Engineer II.
For those with Machinery backgrounds
- Degree in Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- At least ten years of related experience or two years as an Engineer II.
- Seagoing engineering license or professional/chartered engineer license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Advanced practical industry-related experience.
- Knowledge of related technical disciplines and applicable Rules and Regulations.
- Understanding of company policies and procedures.
- Strong human relations skills for client contacts and team leadership.
- Ability to analyze and solve complex engineering problems.
- Effective planning and scheduling skills.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
- Ability to learn and apply ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
Additional Qualifications
Professional or chartered engineer license is desirable.
Reporting Relationships :
The incumbent generally reports to a Principal Engineer but may report to others based on specific assignments. This position does not have direct reports.
