- Conduct routine inspections, testing, and troubleshooting to identify faults, prevent failures, and maintain system reliability.
- Ensure electrical systems comply with applicable HTM 06 series guidance, including HTM 06-01 where relevant, and applicable statutory safety requirements.
- Ensure ELV and fire detection systems operate reliably and coordinate interfaces with nurse call, emergency alarms, and other healthcare systems.
- Coordinate maintenance and testing activities to minimise disruption to clinical services and maintain patient and staff safety.
- Review technical drawings, method statements, risk assessments, permits to work, and maintenance procedures before approving or undertaking assigned activities.
- Supervise contractors and specialist service providers, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, safety procedures, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
- Coordinate with clinical teams, HSE personnel, infection prevention teams, and other engineering disciplines before carrying out work in operational healthcare areas.
- Investigate recurring electrical and ELV faults, analyse system performance, and recommend corrective actions and reliability improvements.
- Support commissioning, testing, validation, and handover of new or modified electrical and ELV installations.
- Coordinate with specialist teams responsible for medical gas systems (HTM 02-01), ventilation (HTM 03-01), water systems (HTM 04-01), fire safety (HTM 05 series), and lifts (HTM 08-02) where systems interface with assigned services.
- Ensure electrical safety, equipment isolation, permit-to-work controls, and risk mitigation measures are implemented in accordance with assigned authority and competency.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, maintenance activities, equipment history, risk assessments, and work orders in the CMMS and relevant reporting systems.
- Monitor maintenance costs, spare parts, contractor performance, and service delivery, recommending improvements to enhance safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
