Job Description

The Industry 4.0 District is a major initiative by UAE University, aligning with its goal to become the University of the Future. This District Hub is an advanced industrial innovation and prototyping centre, designed to bridge the gap between research, education, and industry. Equipped with state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies, including CNC machining, additive manufacturing, automation systems, robotics, and drones. The hub serves as a collaborative space for engineers, students, and industry professionals. Our mission is to drive cutting-edge research, product development, and technical training to empower the next generation of innovators and enhance industrial capabilities.

The successful candidate for the Electronics/Mechatronics Engineer position will collaborate closely with the District’s management and coordinators.

We are seeking a versatile and motivated Electronics/Mechatronics Engineer to provide hands-on support across multiple engineering projects within the District Hub and assist with daily operations. The ideal candidate should have a solid background in electronics and basic mechanical principles, with the ability to assist in design, prototyping, troubleshooting, and testing of various industrial and R&D projects related to electronics, IoT, robotics, additive manufacturing, and metal fabrication.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge fabrication technologies, additive manufacturing, automation, and industrial electronics. The candidate will work closely with senior engineers, technicians, and students while developing skills in multidisciplinary problem-solving, project execution, and technical training.

Responsibilities
  1. Project Support & Technical Assistance
    • Assist in the design, assembly, and troubleshooting of electronic circuits, mechatronic systems, and automation projects.
    • Support PCB design, soldering, microcontroller programming, and embedded system development.
    • Help in CNC machining, laser cutting, 3D printing, and prototyping for various projects.
    • Work with sensors, actuators, robotic systems, and industrial automation tools.
    • Assist in assembling and maintaining industrial machinery within the hub.
  2. Research & Development Support
    • Conduct literature reviews and feasibility studies for new R&D projects.
    • Assist in designing, testing, and optimizing prototypes.
    • Help in integrating IoT, AI, and automation technologies into industrial applications.
    • Contribute to documentation, technical reports, and presentations for projects.
  3. Training & Student Mentorship
    • Assist in educational workshops and training sessions for students and interns.
    • Help prepare training materials, tutorials, and lab demonstrations.
    • Provide technical support for university students working on capstone projects and research activities.
  4. Maintenance & Lab Organization
    • Maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment, 3D printers, CNC machines, and electronics workstations.
    • Ensure proper organization and inventory management of tools, components, and consumables.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering, prototyping, or R&D environment.
  • Hands-on experience in circuit design, microcontrollers (Arduino, ESP32, STM32), and programming (C, Python).
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and manufacturing processes, including CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360), 3D printing, and CNC machining.
  • Basic understanding of robotics, automation, and control systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in student projects, internships, or university research labs is highly desirable.
