Job description

Job Purpose

Performs day to day field duties of the EPCL EHS Department in effecting EPCL's comprehensive EHS Management System and Programs through continuous field assessment's, and in so doing ensures EPCL's conformity with International Best Practices & Local Authority EHS Regulations and Standards.

Delivers Safety Programs to prevent or correct unsafe working conditions, utilizing knowledge of industrial processes, mechanics, chemistry, psychology, and industrial health and safety regulations.

Principal Accountabilities

  1. Ensures application of a proactive EHS Field Plan focused on protecting the health & safety of field personnel, EPCL assets and minimising any potential impact the Refinery may have on its surroundings.
  2. Is accountable for a defined geographical portion of the Refinery (as determined by the Fire & Safety Engineer in consultation with the EHS Manager); on a four monthly rotational based pattern
  3. On a needs basis, participates in Hazard Identification & Control meetings for all non-routine work to be performed in the EHS Inspector's geographical area of responsibility & ensures all identified EHS precautions are communicated and strictly adhered to by those performing the work.
  4. Conducts daily EHS inspections with the intent of promoting positive EHS behaviours and, in an effort to prevent any downgrading incidents, takes immediate remedial action when the situation warrants it; any remedial action taken is to be immediately reported to the principle in charge of the work.
  5. Participates in Incident Investigations as required by the Fire & Safety Engineer/EHS Manager.
  6. Responds to refinery emergencies and is a part of the EPCL Incident Command System, as required.
  7. Analyses and collates regular progress reports on area assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • An Engineering Graduate preferred.
  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent.
  • Should have EHS auditing experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years in the Processing Industry.
  • Good communication & report writing skills; should be team orientated.
