Job description

Job Opportunity: Faculty Position in Urban Planning at AUS

The College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for a faculty position—either visiting or regular—at the assistant or associate level in the Master of Urban Planning (MUP) program. This role offers the chance to teach and research in a vibrant urban context, shaping future urban planners. MUP alumni hold key leadership roles regionally. AUS's recent emphasis on research provides strong support for scholarly activities.

The position offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits, including free housing and utilities, retirement contributions, funding for annual return airfare, tuition for dependents, and health insurance.

Applicants should demonstrate excellence or potential in teaching, research, and service. Expertise in environmental planning, transportation planning, or planning history is preferred, but other urban planning interests are also welcome. The successful candidate will teach core and elective courses at both graduate and undergraduate levels, with a preference for those familiar with the North American higher education model.

A PhD in urban planning or a related field is required, with duties beginning in August 2025.

Application materials include:

  1. A letter of application with contact details for three referees.
  2. A curriculum vitae.
  3. A digital portfolio showcasing scholarly, professional, or teaching activities (e.g., research manuscripts, syllabi, course ratings). All documents should be compiled into a single PDF.

Apply confidently via this link. Please note, application review begins December 1, 2024, and continues until the position is filled. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

AUS offers diverse programs in architecture, interior design, visual communication, multimedia design, and design management, all taught in English. Learn more at CAAD website.

AUS is accredited by the UAE's Ministry of Education and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in the US. The Bachelor of Architecture program is NAAB-accredited, the first outside North America.

Located in the Gulf region, AUS serves a diverse student body from the UAE and beyond. Additional information is available at University website.
