Job Purpose
The Staff Nurse is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The Staff Nurse supports professional nursing practice across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. They understand, support, and promote the mission, vision, and values of SSMC, providing age-appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body. The Staff Nurse adheres to and promotes the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.
Responsibilities
- Assessment and Diagnosis: Collects and analyzes assessment data to determine diagnosis/issues, including physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs. Uses evidence-based assessment techniques, validates diagnoses with patients, families, and healthcare team, and documents findings according to guidelines.
- Planning and Outcomes Identification: Identifies expected outcomes, develops and modifies plans of care involving patient, family, and healthcare team, and documents measurable goals using standardized language.
- Implementation and Coordination of Care Delivery: Implements care plans, performs treatments, administers medications, documents care, and communicates across care levels, demonstrating resource awareness and cost-effectiveness.
- Health Teaching and Promotion: Uses appropriate teaching strategies, promotes healthy lifestyles, seeks feedback, and documents education provided.
- Evaluation: Assesses progress, revises care plans based on ongoing assessments, involves patients and families, and ensures proper handovers and communication about patient status.
- Evidence-based Practice and Research: Incorporates current evidence and research into practice, participates in research activities, and shares findings with colleagues.
- Leadership: Demonstrates leadership, coordinates activities, supervises staff, and participates in organizational decision-making to improve practice and outcomes.
Accountabilities
- Maintains professional and ethical standards, advocates for patients, questions practices for safety, and reports concerns per policy.
- Evaluates own practice, considers environmental and organizational factors, and utilizes current resources and electronic tools.
- Promotes a safe, environmentally conscious practice environment, mentors team members, and responds effectively to emergencies.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years clinical experience post-qualification in an appropriate setting (waived for UAE nursing college graduates after internship).
Educational Qualification:
- Bachelor degree in nursing or a minimum two-year nursing degree with registration as a Registered Nurse from specified countries, with a valid license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Desired:
- ACLS, PALS relevant to specialty area.
