Job Title: Development Chemist - Drilling Fluids Additives and Mud Testing

Reporting to: Laboratory Manager

Job Purpose
  • Synthesis of new products for drilling, production, and completion applications.
  • Formulate and test drilling & mud chemicals according to customer specifications and mud systems.
  • Conduct performance studies for OBM additives—emulsifiers, wetting agents, rheology modifiers, and fluid loss control additives—and prepare technical reports.
  • Create technical specifications and detailed manufacturing plans for new products, participating in trial batches with the production team.
  • Troubleshoot batch failures and collaborate with customers through technical meetings.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop safety practices related to product design, development, manufacturing, and usage.
  • Apply scientific principles to research and develop new and improved products and processes.
  • Test incoming materials and perform API & HTHP testing on drilling fluids.
  • Liaise with customer technical representatives.
  • Perform complex environmental and laboratory tests, ensuring accuracy and data integrity.
  • Maintain detailed records and reports of testing and analysis.
  • Coordinate with production to ensure quality control and efficient operations.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and other industry standards.
  • Participate in training and adhere to company policies, including QHSE systems.
  • Support production in trial batches and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain ISO documentation and organize chemical storage.
  • Prepare technical reports and participate in sustainability programs.
Specialized Knowledge
  • Technical knowledge of specialty oilfield chemicals, including drilling, stimulation, cementing, and production chemicals.
  • Knowledge of performance testing and relevant legislation and standards.
  • Understanding of plant operations and chemical synthesis.
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong organizational and methodological skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
Experience & Qualifications

5-7 years in product development and performance analysis in the oil and gas industry, specifically in drilling, production, and completion chemicals.

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
