Job Description
Responsible to independently or under the supervision of senior sonographer perform all sonography imagery procedures, analyze output and report to supervisor as needed.
Responsibilities
Managerial
- Maintaining sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties.
- Reporting shortage of materials to supervisor at earliest convenience, maintaining records for ordering and replenishments.
Technical
- Performing all Ultrasound imagery procedures in accordance with department policies, procedures and protocols. Applying detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology to produce images of high diagnostic quality.
- Performing other related radiography (special) procedures as required.
- Evaluating and assessing Ultrasound images for quality, appropriateness, and completeness; advising staff when necessary. Forwarding images to Radiologist for review and reporting.
- Recognizing anatomy and pathology in cross-sectional imaging to optimize scan protocols; liaising with radiologists for further imaging or tests.
- Ensuring the safe and competent use of all radiology equipment, patient appliances, and aids. Reporting incidents and equipment faults promptly.
- Maintaining a clean and tidy working environment, including restocking supplies and cleaning equipment.
- Providing advice to medical/technical staff on techniques and imagery interventions.
- Handling patient and clinical staff inquiries and relaying information as necessary.
- Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Quality & Safety
- Promoting and maintaining quality in all services; implementing continuous quality improvement measures.
- Conducting method evaluations/developments as per policies.
- Complying with safety and quality control procedures, including infection control and environmental safety measures.
- Maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
- Practicing within established policies and procedures.
- Ensuring SOPs and Quality Assurance tests are maintained.
- Documenting interventions appropriately.
- Supporting clinical audit processes and reporting on them.
- Communicating professionally with patients and staff to obtain information and explain procedures.
Education
- Participating in educational sessions, training, and departmental programs.
- Participating in orientation and training of new staff and interns.
- Sharing information in accordance with policies.
- Maintaining professional knowledge through continuous education.
- Completing all regulatory requirements including licensure and certification.
Qualifications
Required: NLT 2 years postgraduate experience in ultrasound in an acute care hospital, including Doppler, obstetrics/gynecology, and abdominal sonography (of which NLT 2 years as a senior ultrasound radiographer).
UAE National: NLT 2 years postgraduate experience in general radiography.
Desired: Postgraduate Ultrasound Diploma Certificate.
