Duties & Responsibilities:
Zoo educators are responsible for teaching visitors about the animals kept at the zoo and promoting conservation efforts.
Duties
- Promote public awareness about conservation, ecosystems, and animal welfare to enhance flora and fauna protection. This can be conducted formally (lectures, guided tours) or informally (answering questions).
- Engage with schools and visitors by providing information about Emirates Park Zoo and its collection of animals.
- Present live animal shows and educational demonstrations (in-situ programs) for schools and visitors.
- Interact with veterinarians, nutritionists, trainers, zoo keepers, and other zoo staff to stay updated on the latest happenings.
- Conduct ex-situ educational presentations and exhibitions to increase public awareness and interest in flora and fauna, possibly involving live animals.
- Prepare educational materials such as posters, brochures, banners, workbooks, and handouts.
- Handle guest concerns and resolve problems politely, helpfully, and accurately.
- Answer questions and interact with visitors in a welcoming manner to encourage repeat visits.
- Engage with volunteers and interns to achieve zoo goals.
- Produce videos, take photos, and create multimedia presentations to promote the zoo and its programs if needed.
- Educate visitors on proper animal foods and conduct talks about animals and conservation, especially in petting zones, monkey areas, giraffe areas, animal paradise, and domestic areas.
- Provide experiences that help visitors understand their impact on the environment.
- Assist with emergency incidents related to animals and people if needed.
- Assist with animal observations to ensure animal health if needed.
Requirements
Educational Qualifications and Training
- Bachelor’s degrees in natural sciences, education, communications, zoology, biology, animal science, or related fields.
- Excellent presentation skills adaptable to different ages and learning abilities.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and stand for long periods.
- Self-confidence.
- Excellent customer service skills and teamwork.
- Punctuality, professional appearance, and demeanor.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Flexibility to work on a changing schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
