Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

Based at the Corporate Office in Dubai, the Fleet Technical Superintendent is responsible for supporting and managing, in the most cost-effective and efficient way, the repairs, maintenance, and general upkeep of the P&O Maritime Logistics Fleet.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Technical
  • Manage fleet-wide activities including dockings, surveys, upgrades, modifications, breakdowns, major accidents/incidents, and projects.
  • Support technical procurement, insurance matters, and P&I claims.
  • Provide technical support to ensure activities are completed on time and within budget.
  • Prepare detailed project/job/docking specifications in coordination with regional technical personnel.
  • Liaise with Central Procurement for sourcing cost-effective spare parts and ensure timely delivery.
  • Travel to vessels or sites as required to support activities.
  • Manage support functions including yard personnel, OEM service engineers, subcontractors, and service providers.
  • Coordinate with regional offices, country managers, and technical teams on technical issues.
  • Interact with insurance brokers and underwriters regarding technical claims, in collaboration with legal and procurement teams.
Planning and Cost Control
  • Contribute to the preparation of project/docking/repair specifications and budgets.
  • Negotiate with vendors and service providers to optimize costs and ensure technical compatibility.
  • Assist in preparing tender documents and evaluate bids.
  • Monitor costs and schedules, reporting deviations promptly.
  • Participate in the selection of repair yards and service providers.
  • Control technical costs in line with budgets and report any deviations.
  • Support onboard Planned Preventive Maintenance to ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Assist in preparing annual docking/survey plans and budgets.
Reporting
  • Provide daily status reports on projects and dockings, including yard/contractor performance.
  • Update vessel repair/docking information in the NS5 system.
  • Prepare reports as directed by senior management.
Planned Maintenance System (NS5)
  • Support and evaluate the implementation of the NS5 system for effective use.
  • Identify deficiencies and suggest improvements for the system.
Other Functions
  • Understand internal and customer organizational structures, assets, and operational priorities.
  • Maintain high technical knowledge through ongoing training and self-development.
  • Participate in project reviews, evaluate successes, and recommend improvements.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Marine Engineering Class 1 Motor (Class 2 considered with experience); or
  • Master of Engineering Sciences, Mechanics, or Electromechanical Engineering; or
  • Master of Industrial Sciences, Electromechanical Engineering option;
  • Sea experience as chief engineer on offshore support vessels with at least 5 years of supervisory shore-based experience; or
  • 10 years of shore experience as a Technical/Dry Docking Superintendent.
Key Attributes
  • Technical expertise in design, development, and systems integration.
  • Proficiency in reading and designing technical drawings (CAD).
  • Knowledge of major Class Society requirements (ABS, DNV GL, BV).
  • In-depth knowledge of Planned Maintenance Systems (AMOS, NS5).
