Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

Provides quality professional services in the evaluation and treatment of patients with speech, language, cognitive, fluency, voice, swallowing, and feeding disorders, as well as associated communication problems.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Provides support to a caseload of patients with developmental speech and language delays and disorders, and swallowing or feeding disorders in adults and/or pediatrics. This includes developing and implementing specialized speech and language treatment plans.
  2. Facilitates and studies in-depth case histories, including medical, social, psychological, educational, and developmental information.
  3. Advises others regarding the management and care of patients with communication needs and oro-motor difficulties.
  4. Investigates skills and broad knowledge of standardized assessments, combined with sound clinical reasoning, to form baseline measures or differential diagnoses to plan interventions.
  5. Delivers therapy interventions, ensuring speech, language, and communication programs are integrated into the patient's learning and daily routines.
  6. Coordinates and collaborates as a member of the SLP team, providing efficient and effective services, liaising with internal and external agencies.
  7. Provides timely, individualized management, treatment, and advice for patients, involving families, caregivers, and educators, and offers training and recommendations to professionals from other disciplines.
  8. Monitors equipment use, reports faults, and contacts maintenance or suppliers for repairs or updates.
  9. Develops standard precautions for infection control.
  10. Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information, whether recorded formally or informally.
  11. Attends regular staff meetings and contributes to the maintenance and development of clinical and professional knowledge, including CPD/CME hours for re-licensing.
  12. Manages material shortages by promptly informing supervisors and approving replenishments when necessary.
Accountabilities
  1. Ensures clinical competency and performance, focusing on safety, efficiency, effectiveness, and patient satisfaction for assigned units.
QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

  • Required: Minimum 2 years of post-graduate experience in Speech and Hearing Sciences or Speech Language Pathology.

Educational Qualification:

  • BSc in Speech & Hearing, Speech Language Pathology, or Communications Sciences & Disorders.
  • Current National License or membership in a recognized international agency preferred.
  • MSc in Speech & Hearing, Speech Language Pathology, or Communications Sciences & Disorders (which can reduce the required experience by 1 year). Candidates with MSc may be accepted with a basic degree in psychology or language.
