Education & Qualification:
- Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent from a recognized university (advantageous).
- Minimum NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (IGC) or equivalent Level 3 Certification.
- Preferred ISO 9001, 14001, 18001/45001 internal auditor certification.
- First Aid and Firefighting training will be advantageous.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in FM, Construction, Oil and Gas, or Manufacturing industry.
- 3-5 years of Middle East experience is a must.
- Background as FM HSE assistant with academic experience.
- Willing to relocate to Al Ain, UAE.
Roles, Responsibilities, Duties:
The Environment, Health & Safety Specialist will be responsible for:
- Maintaining and overseeing the implementation of health and safety policies, procedures, and processes on campus, in coordination with Central Services, to ensure a standardized approach across the institution.
- Contributing to EHS innovations to optimize operations and services.
- Managing licenses and permits, including Civil Defense and health authority licenses, to ensure smooth operations.
- Supporting facilities management projects with safety requirements and coordinating with central health and safety teams.
- Managing investigations of incidents to determine root causes and prevent reoccurrence, including responding to emergencies involving hazardous materials, fires, or unknown hazards.
- Developing and maintaining incident records and reporting systems.
- Implementing fire evacuation and first aid procedures, and conducting emergency drills.
- Developing EHS and sustainability training programs and awareness sessions to promote safety and compliance.
- Managing EHS and security programs, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.
- Evaluating safety performance, hazard assessments, and determining hazard controls.
- Representing EHS topics to college officials, regulators, vendors, and external organizations.
- Developing resources and initiatives to expand safety, environmental, and health knowledge among community members.
- Supporting environmental sustainability integration into daily activities and projects.
- Utilizing innovative technologies in EHS fields for risk evaluation, waste management, indoor air quality, etc.
- Managing EHS projects and resources to maintain or improve EHS management system performance.
- Monitoring EHS compliance and reporting on the effectiveness of programs.
- Promoting awareness and preparedness to foster a safety culture.
- Reviewing policies, conducting hazard and risk assessments, and recommending improvements.
- Conducting EHS audits, recommending corrective actions, and ensuring continuous improvement.
- Sharing lessons learned and EHS alerts within the institution.
- Providing timely EHS reports and follow-up on corrective actions.
- Supporting accessibility and universal design for people of determination and special groups.
