A&O Shearman is recruiting a Paralegal to join the Finance - Civil Team in Dubai.

Department Purpose

Banks and borrowers require innovative, adaptable legal services from lawyers capable of offering robust advice in an uncertain economic climate. More than ever, general lending transactions need to be structured and negotiated to meet market and client requirements. A&O Shearman advises on all forms of financing that borrowers or lenders undertake, often working on groundbreaking deals that set market standards.

The UAE Civil Law team is recognized as a market leader, offering exceptional market knowledge gained from handling large, cross-border deals in both boom and bust times. Our expertise includes advising domestic and international financiers and borrowers on various financing transactions worldwide.

We seek high-quality applicants with strong experience advising on the enforceability of structured finance and derivative products in the Middle East to join our dynamic team, where quality of work is paramount.

Role and Responsibilities

• Advising on the enforceability of structured finance and derivative products in the Middle East
• Drafting, reviewing, and amending documentation
• Strategically advising clients in meetings, on calls, and in writing
• Managing client expectations and project delivery
• Business development, including developing personal plans and assisting with campaigns
• Conducting legal research

Key Requirements

• Bar admission or working towards Bar admission (Civil) and/or SQE requirements under SRA
• Strong technical knowledge of the legal framework for structured finance and derivatives in the Middle East
• Excellent advisory and legal drafting skills
• Intellectual curiosity and versatility
• Self-motivated with a desire to learn and share knowledge
• Attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple deadlines
• Excellent client relationship skills
• Experience operating at Paralegal level within a complex international organization
• Strong commercial acumen with pragmatic problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships at all levels
• Team player able to work in a fast-paced, rigorous environment
• Sound judgment and credibility
• Native Arabic speaker is a plus
