Assistant Nurse OPD Job Description

Location: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Provide nursing care as delegated and supervised by the registered nurse licensed for independent practice, while remaining responsible and accountable for your actions. Work as a valuable member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team and contribute to the planning and delivery of nursing tasks.

Note: Assistants are not expected to prepare, administer, or document medications, as this is outside their scope of clinical practice competency.

Responsibilities
  1. Assist patients with daily activities such as ambulation, transferring, physical activities, range of motion exercises, dressing, grooming, bathing, and personal hygiene.
  2. Support non-pharmacological comfort and pain relief interventions, establishing an environment conducive to patient comfort.
  3. Observe and report changes in patient status and reactions to care.
  4. Perform procedures like measuring fluid intake/output, height, weight, and transporting patients and specimens.
  5. Contribute to patient education on health risk factors and health determinants.
  6. Participate in health promotion, early detection, and screening strategies.
  7. Assist specialists and consultants in procedures within the OPD.
  8. Conduct initial patient assessments and demonstrate triage skills.
  9. Maintain and update medical records according to hospital policies.
  10. Ensure departmental cleanliness and adhere to infection control policies.
  11. Identify patients with communicable diseases and follow isolation protocols.
  12. Maintain confidentiality of patient records.
  13. Assess educational needs of patients and families, providing relevant health education.
  14. Follow reporting protocols within the Nursing Department.
  15. Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education.
  16. Be competent in CPR and participate in emergency response teams.
  17. Manage equipment and supplies efficiently, including daily checks of emergency carts and inventory management.
  18. Adhere strictly to hospital policies on fire safety, patient safety, infection control, and other safety measures.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
  20. Implement health and safety measures during pandemics, including safe work practices and hazard reporting.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Current nursing license from the country of origin and DOH license to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE
  • Minimum of 2 years nursing experience post-qualification
  • BLS provider certification
