Job Scope
- Assists with veterinary laboratory procedures for all aspects of SeaWorld Abu Dhabi's collection, as directed by veterinarians and leadership. This includes analyses of hematology, chemistry, microbiology, mycology, parasitology, urinalysis, cytology, and water chemistry.
- Calculates and analyzes laboratory test results, documents, and logs data.
- Creates reports for laboratory files and colleagues for various research projects.
- Assists with maintenance schedules for laboratory medical equipment, inventory of testing materials and components, and sanitation of the laboratory area, following leadership direction.
- Participates in the medical care of rescued wildlife, including dugongs, birds, sea turtles, and cetaceans.
- Prepares samples for diagnostic and ancillary testing.
- Consults and educates zoological colleagues, leadership teams, and occasionally guests on health, welfare, and husbandry.
- Assists with animal health research projects and prepares data for presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of the workplace.
- Assists in health assessments and field research with various species.
- Works in varying shifts, including opening, mid, and closing shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls up to 50 lbs (20 kg) occasionally; performs extensive walking or standing indoors or outdoors; handles tasks involving repetitive motions such as bending, stooping, or lifting.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field, or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain a veterinary laboratory technician license or certification in the UAE.
- At least 2 years of proven laboratory experience as a medical technologist.
- Excellent English communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly to the evolving needs of the animal collection.
- Knowledge of current laboratory equipment and technologies.
- Proficiency in MS Office and basic mathematical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Board eligibility or Diplomat status of a recognized veterinary professional body.
- Experience with professional zoo or aquarium communities and nondomestic species.
- Experience with data entry, hematology, reproductive analyzers, and equipment maintenance.
